Are people nice at Sidwell? Wondering if we parents are going to fit in

In my experience they are very nice.

Very nice. Volunteer and be friendly and you will be fine. I enjoyed going on a shadow tour when my DC went overseas for chorus.

Lovely community. Are you a contemplating an acceptance offer for your DS or DD?

Uptight snooty community. The worst of all the ones we toured. Enough that we didn't apply.

Mostly very nice. The vocal minority who are unpleasant/nasty mainly go after admin, teachers, college counseling, and coaches -- which mainly blows back on other parents in the form of having to listen to complaining. Strong "my child right or wrong" dynamic among parents but that's pretty true at any private these days.

I can only speak about the Lower School, but we've been so happy with meeting and making deep friendships with the other parents. I wasn't going to school looking to expand my social circle. But it's been a wonderful side benefit of being there. The parents are so nice, friendly, interesting and genuine people that it's been a pleasure to get to know them. Now some are among the people we spend the most time with. It's a warm welcoming group and one of the surprising strengths of the school.

I think OP is asking about people who actually know -- i.e. people whose children attend Sidwell. Not someone who has simply toured the school.

How many actual parents of current students did you meet on the tour?

Enough to know its not this warm welcoming accepting community you all like to portray yourselves as. I suppose I should modify my original comment to say if you are uptight and snooty it will be a warm and welcoming community for you.

And if you appeared at your one-hour open house with that attitude, I am not surprised that you left feeling that way.

BTW, I totally disagree with your comments. We are new to Sidwell this admissions cycle and have been so happy with the wonderful parents we have met there so far.

Pot meet kettle.

Then you are uptight and snooty and are fitting right in. Duh!

Then it sounds like your answer should be: "I don't know. I'm not part of that community."
