| Does anyone have any thoughts/observations? It seemed less "festive" than others, I thought. And I find it strange that they never sent anything (no letter with glitter, no backpack or magnets). Even at the reception, all of the "swag" was for purchase. Anyone else notice any of this, or am I the only one looking for freebies? Just kidding, of course, but I did feel a different vibe... |

I'm guessing you're not an old money wasp.
This isn't LA. |
That's funny (not really). Just comparing it to the other receptions I attended, as other threads have done, it is a "forum" after all... |
Even if I were an old money wasp I would not want to be an old money wasp. |
And I'm telling you, ncs has an old money wasp feel. Glitter and swag are not their thing. |

The fact that OP expected glitter from NCS made me smile...
Congratulations on your DD's acceptance, OP! |
| That's generally not the NCS style and I cannot believe anyone even cares about this stuff. However, my DD got "free" class t-shirts, magnets, binders, etc but it came over the summer and it was given directly to her at orientation. I'm going for substance and a great education for my DD and could care less about flash. I guess I would be wondering why other schools feel the need to jazz-it-up at this point to try to "WOW" parents with free stuff and glitter. |
I don't think OP cares. She noticed a difference and was simply asking if anyone else thought it was weird. If the response is "that's not NCS style. They provide things at orientation," why is that not enough? Why must you also insult the fact that she doesn't know NCS culture? I'm definitely not WASP old school money and based on what I read on this forum would have thought it odd as well. |
| OP, here's a hint: The schools that go all-out with bands, glitter and pomp and circumstance at these things, generally have to. If your DD doesn't accept at NCS, they have plenty of people waiting in line behind her. They don't have to put on a show for you. You take them, or you don't. |
| Schools send letters with glitter? Things must have changed in the last 10 years.... |
I think I read Sidwell did confetti one year... |
| I actually appreciated the NCS reception. Low key, early, not pomp and circumstance. They have a great new student orientation in the spring where the students meet their advisors in small groups and then parents meet the advisors in small groups. |
| I did not like the reception last night. It was like an information session that you attend prior to applying to the school. It was no different that the student panel that came to Beauvoir last fall. |
| GDS and Potomac were all for purchase as well. |
| It was nice and is a lovely school but if I am being honest, I left feeling very concerned that my young daughter will have too much homework and become stressed at a young age. I don't believe in homework on the weekdays in lower school and even other Big 3 schools do not have homework on the weekends. |
