Girls Tryouts

Fall lacrosse is almost always a crap shoot outside of the 'A' teams. Some teams don't always put themselves in the right bracket so they get wins. Some think they might be missing people and go lower. Some end up missing more people than they had initially planned for. Some try to play in higher brackets to gauge their team for the summer.

Some tournaments also don't post scores so you also don't see those. DD team went 3-0 at PTYG but 0-4 at MA, but no scores posted in the one tourney so you don't see those.

But to play in a really low bracket as the club’s A team calls into question was it the right bracket for them or just to “win” and be able to say went 4-0 at MidAtlantic. Maybe it was intentional and they needed a confidence boost. I think the convo on this thread is that it is just really hard to figure out a teams actual level or clubs level anymore before joining. Being at MidAtlantic is better than not but may not mean what it once did depending on the bracket you put yourself in.

How did they do in the playoffs? Tourney Machine hasn't updated the results so they should have faced tougher opponents since they made the playoffs. There are some other local clubs whose A/only team went 0-4 in a subpar bracket. Honestly once you get past the A/top B bracket, things seem to be a bit of a crapshoot.

They lost in first round by a solid margin to the second place team from the A bracket. These really short/abbreviated playoff games many tournaments hold are the wackiest of all though - they are so short and can be very random. I am not saying that is what happened with MC’s playoff loss, but feel like bracket play tells more and why teams actually usually want to ensure challenging, competitive games during bracket play.

This tourney's organizers are also known for some manipulation of brackets. It also is the end of the fall season and many teams were missing players due to soccer, etc. DD team had a handful of usual starters out and it clearly showed.

Spring and summer are where results really matter and tell the true story of the team because the commitment level is different since it is the primary sport during those seasons and teams have had more time to gel.

Just remember though - THIS is NOT true once you get to High school. For girls club lacrosse, fall is just as important as summer. And there is no spring.

This is true to an extent. Fall will never be as important as summer.

If you saw the number of college coaches on the sidelines of top 2024 teams' games, you could argue otherwise.

Nope. Absolutely not true in high school.

Fall is the first look. Summer is where decisions are made.

For Sophmores, sure. But this thread is abput Girls tryouts. The MS and early HS teams are pretty consistent fall to summer.
