It would if the police were to ever release the video. Must be nice when parties aligned with a potential defendant get to control when evidence comes to light. |
At this time it is not clear to us (the general public) that that is what happened (parents intervened to keep everyone safe.) We don't know how they reacted, how close they got to the police officer, what they might have said/done, etc. We do know that the only people who were shot were members of the the French family, so obviously the police officer was not just shooting at random. |
I'm sure that if they could choose differently they would do so. |
Look at the website for the French family's lawyer. This isn't his first rodeo. His whole shtick is suing police officers. I'm sure he knows all the ins and outs of getting the video made public, if that's what would benefit his case and client. So far I haven't heard/read a peep from him wanting the video made public. Hmmmm..... |
Yeah, because lawyers never spin facts to paint their clients in the best possible light. Has the video been released? |
They could have. One could have gone to the store, while the other stayed home. This should be basic knowledge when you have an unmedicated, severely mentally ill person in your care. |
Yes, he’s a civil rights lawyer. He works to ensure that law enforcement is held to standards of the law and the Constitution instead of violating people’s rights with impunity. Our Constitution doesn’t mean anything if no one is making sure the government is held accountable for obeying it. |
Lol, and I noticed you didn't even respond to my statement that this highly experienced, cop suing, Constitution defender, has not said one word about wanting the video made public. If the video shows his innocent clients calmly waiting for a chicken sample and suddenly being gunned down by a trigger happy cop, you can bet he'd be making a huge scene about the fact that the video hasn't been released yet. He seems perfectly content that the public has not been allowed to see what really happened. |
Yeah, that does seem significant. |
It was a moronic comment because you don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes. If the video is really bad for the officer, the department may want to negotiate a quiet settlement with the family on their own liability, and then the family will get the video for their own use in their suit against the officer. If there’s a prospect of the department offering enough money, the family may be willing to accept keeping the tape private for now knowing it will come out later. |
+1 |
| Could the parents be held liable for bringing their unmedicated son into Costco? |
+2. LOLing at you all who are taking the word of the officer’s lawyer as gospel and ignoring what the family’s lawyer said. |
He was an adult, so unless he was declared incompetent and his parents given legal custody of him, no, they can’t be held legally responsible. And even if they could, for what? The cop’s ER bill to check his bruise? |
