Union 2010 parents cry every time somebody touches their baby. Then blame the refs and call the other team dirty. It happened a lot this spring.

Hey VDA parent...Union parent here. Nope Surf is not dirty, whoever said that knows nothing about soccer. We just got manhandled.

Not VDA parent but you do cry every time a Union player is touched. Surf loss is not the player’s fault. Arrogance and lack of respect for the game by the Union coaches.

Now you understand what people mean when they say size and speed alone don't win over tactics, defined set plays, and consistency.

What Surf does isn't magic but they do it very well. They develop players and teams the same way from u5 to t19. Because of this type of training players all know exactly what to do through repetition on the 1st, 2nd, and attacking 3rd.

SD Surf is beatable but you'll never do it with a kickball team. This is because when you play kickball every boot upfield becomes a 50/50 ball. Over time if Surf maintains possession longer than their opponent they'll score because they rarely make mistakes.

SD surf is also a huge club (there really is not an east coast comparison by the numbers) and attracts the best players. Not many of those 2010s started at the U little age, as stated by pp.

PP here. North Carolina Courage is probably as big.

Yes, but SD surf has players moving to their area to play soccer. Families up and move from other states just to play at Surf. It’s not something that happens at the east coast clubs. It’s how SD surf is able to maintain dominance. Attract the best players and coaches, which attracts more of the best players and coaches.

Being able to attract players and coaches from outside your local pool occurs because Surf has been a consistent at producing results for a long time.

However most of their players are local to San Diego.

Don't make excuses. Even if Surf wasn't able to recruit nationally they'd still be very successful.

It’s not excuses it’s reality. There can only be a couple of top tier regions that draw all the best talent in most any industry. In youth soccer that’s Socal and maybe Dallas. In finance it’s NYC, tech is San Fran. Youth football is FL and TX. All the other regions can be good, but the truly exceptional talent will gravitate to the top tier regions. And in soccer, you have the additional draw of Europe for the best talent. That’s the reality and no amount of system changes will change it

Able to attract coaches because they are able to pay crazy salaries. They are a great club. Just not something that can be copied on East Coast.

I think it can be copied anywhere.

The problem is "linebacker" ie bigger + faster = better mentality of parents. Bigger + faster works against B teams. It does not work (by itself) against better teams.

Clubs are giving parents what they want which is shortcuts to wins.

Final 4 is huge congrats to all the 2010s who competed this year. Great season for BSC, they should be back fighting at Richmond every year; and then there was one. It would have been 4 CA teams but ECNL made Legends play MLVA.

Bethesda lost to Koge in PKs in semifinal last year from what I remember. Then Koge won the final. Will Surf take it this year? If Bethesda loses in PKs to the best team in the country each year, that's quite an accomplishment. Congrats to those girls.
