movie theatre that has screenings for parents with babies?

Anonymous
I remember awhile back seeing an advertisement for a movie theatre in the area which had a "mom's showing" or something like that where you could go to a movie and bring your baby. Since it was especially for babies/parents, it didn't matter if your child cried etc. My 3 month old DD is a loud crier and I am getting cabin fever BIG TIME and would love to do something like this. I tried to search but haven't come-up with anything.

Thanks!

My info may be out of date (DD was born Dec 2007), but the ones we found that had it were the Silver Spring downtown theater on Wed mornings, and a theater out in Fairfax (?) on every other Thur. Can't remember exactly which one that was, but it was out in a big complex with newer development that included an REI. It also had an associated Gymboree class either before or after the movie (can't remember which one.)

I'd seen other stuff online for mom and me movies, but they were either no longer running (Georgetown), or I couldn't get more info (the Arlington cinema).

Good luck!

Maybe she does work and is still on maternity leave.

Wow...is it really necessary to turn an innocent and fun question into a debate over SAHM and WOHM? Please...I have always found the Expectant Mom forum to be a bit of a kinder place on DCUM. No need to be snarky!

What is with the working mom basher? She, or they, I haven't figured out which yet is all over here! It's beyond annoying!

I had trouble tracking these down when I was still on leave with #1 - they all seemed to be discontinued, but DH and I did managae a few of the outdoor movies they out on in the summers in Bethesda (NIH and downtown) when DD was just a little one and could sleep through anything. Maybe you could try something similar if you don't have luck finding any at traditional theatres.

I think this is the Fairfax cinema a PP mentioned. I haven't gone but I did have the website bookmarked.

Fairfax Corner 14: Cinema De Lux

I attended several movies at Fairfax Corner while I was on maternity leave and had a blast! Definitely a great way to get out of the house and do something fun for yourself. They turn the sounds down a bit lower and leave the lights on, plus there's a changing area in the front. Highly recommend it and nobody will give you dirty looks if your baby cries (unless the unkind PP happens to be attending)!

They used to call them "reel moms" but I think a bunch of places have stopped doing them...

OP here--thank you to most of you who answered. I look forward to going this week!

Not that it matters but I am on maternity leave. I find that people like the pp who make unnecessary and obnoxious comments tend to be unhappy people and just lash-out at others because of it. So happy that isn't me!

Take care everyone.

Does anyone know if there are any other theaters besided Fairfax that offer these kind of screenings? I'm on maternity leave in MD and this sounds like a lot of fun, but I'd prefer not to have such a long drive to get to the theater.

Check out the Silver Spring theater.

Hi! I saw this was the most recent thread on this topic. I am on maternity leave and wondered if OP or any other DCUM-ers had gone recently? It seems like these are offered less often or discontinued. I live in VA, but don't mind driving. Needing a movie fix

Is the volume at these movies lower than at regular movies? I've heard that you can damage your child's hearing by taking them to a movie theater.
