Anyone try and fail sperm analysis on purpose?

Anonymous
My husband has an upcoming semen analysis and he needs to fail so the insurance covers ICSI. To be on the safe side should I have him take a hot bath the night before?

You're asking for advise on isurance fraud? It's illegal.

Had no idea it would be illegal.

Couldn't he just give an old sample? Like over 30 minutes old so that most of the sperm would be dead?

You have no idea that purposely failing a medical test to obtain insurance benefits was illegal?

That is pretty dense.

Are you a Trump supporter?

Still illegal.

Why do you need ICSI if his sperm isn't the issue?

It is the issue. We meet the criteria for ICSI. The insurance company just messed up and denied the first request for ICSI. He will take another test and I'm worried his new test results will have improved.

But if they have improved so much that you no longer qualify, you won't need it.

Have as much sex as possible in the days leading up to the test. That will affect his counts.

this could really backfire, if the sperm looks bad, the RE might say, this is not going to work, we can't use your DH sperm, ivf cancelled unless you use donor sperm. Or they could say, our diagnosis has been wrong all along, your issue is MF, not xyz, and change you protocol! not to mention the insur fraud part brought up by PP. it's less than 2K to add icsi, as someone who is paying out of pocket for ALL ivf incl icsi b/c my insur won't cover any ART, i don't really appreciate you trying to cheat as it skews costs and eventually makes it harder for the rest of us to get any ART coverage. you are very lucky to have any insurance coverage for ART, i'm pretty shocked that you would be trying to further exploit that. please don't give us IVF-ers a bad name.

ICSI is not that expensive in the grand scheme of things, and it's bad karma to commit fraud

Well, it's fraud.

I'm not trying to cheat. We were already diagnosed as male factor. We simply want the next test to have the same results as the previous ones. We just have to have another test performed because one was over a year old. The one we had performed last month showed mf. We've already been approved for IVF.

Don't take it out on me that you have to pay out of pocket.

I get it. He won't take a hot bath.
