| Who qualifies for this course? |
| Anyone willing to pay the $ |
| stupid way to learn Geometry. next. |
| Honestly, you need to be EXTREMELY gifted to pass with an A, or even an A-. DD spent nearly 18 hours everyday to get an A-. We felt so bad for her because she could not even spend time with family. Unless you have an IQ of 150+, I suggest not trying it. |
| Did your child pass Algebra 1? Are they willing to self motivate? Then sign up. You don't need to be extremely gifted, you need to be extremely motivated to get on line daily and complete tasks/quizes on time. And an true interest in math helps. |
| Does the current Algebra 1 teacher need to recommend to do this course? Could any one explain the process. I understand the registration starts in May. |
| Please see the other thread about summer courses for rising 8th graders. Don't these kids have a life outside of math? |
|
I know of one kid who did it but that kid is exceptionally gifted and driven.
It was very hard and took up the entire day, every day. |
| Does Geometry in Summer give an edge for TJ applicants? |
Not if they hate it/don't do well in the class. |
This. +100 |
| Depends on the student. The ones who have the motivation will be OK. My son planned to take it last year, then we found out that it costs about $700 and coincide with our summer vacation, so he take it this year. The program will meet in person twice for the whole session. Then all online classes. |
| Why on earth do you want your child to do this, OP? |
My child did geometry in eighth grade, was accepted to TJ, and has done quite well there. The summer before eighth grade he spent doing a program for an athletic activity which was the basis for most of his SIS answers. Kids need to develop and strengthen interests outside the classroom and TJ wants kids who have more to offer the school as a whole. Summer school geometry takes up most of the day for weeks. Does your child have a non-academic interest that can't be easily pursued during the school year? The summer can be a good time to learn more about and develop other interests. |
| Quite a few kids at our MS take it every summer. That's what enables the school to have enough students to form an algebra 2 class in 8th grade. |
