This is a serious question. You guys know me as the extremely preppy Paleoconservative. I've got a bunch of small LACs on my list. However, I've decided that I need to expand my criteria and add some larger schools to my list. I'm looking for schools that are similar to UVA, but not as hard to get into. I want a larger school with strong academics, a good Greek system, good placment on Wall Street, and in top law schools, and a moderate faculty/student body.( I want a student body and faculty that is open to all points of view. NO speach codes. I want a place where I won't be ostracized for being a staunch Paleoconservative.) my GPA is 3.2, and I have a 28 ACT. |
3.2 GPA? That's going to make things tough. |
i think the bolded part will be tough with your GPA. what about some of the other southern state schools? they would have the strong academics, good Greek system and moderate faculty/student body part. |
I would hope that you wouldn't be ostracized at any large school because of your particular political philosophy. But calling yourself a "Paleocon" makes you come across as pretentious and weird. If you decide you must use this label, be aware that it will rub people wrong. Not because you have a different belief system, but because you seem self importent and obnoxious. |
With your grades and scores I would say you should think about USC, Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss. Plenty of conservatives and you will be accepted. No chance getting into UVA or Chapel Hill. |
OP here. What are the differences between Auburn and Alabama? I get those two mixed up a lot. |
Do you realize that UVA is a liberal school in a liberal town? |
OP here. I'd say UVA is moderate. I have 2 very conservative friends who went there. |
I seem to recall a thread about someone with scores like yours who allegedly got accepted. Good luck with your UVa application. |
It doesn't matter where you go to undergrad to go to law school and you won't get in anywhere with good Wall Street placement. |
Miami University in Ohio (aka Miami of Ohio). Has a great and well ranked business school. Large Greek system and plenty of conservatives. |
JMU |
Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. But you will be on the edge with that GPA. |
Trinity College, Connecticut College |
ITA with PP--those are great schools for you to focus on (assuming USC means South Carolina). Bama, Auburn, and Ole Miss in particular have extremely strong alumni networks. Alabama vs Auburn: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1658903-auburn-vs-alabama.html |
