This is child abuse. please report this thread and any identifying information to the authorities. |
I left that thread up because the guy seemed to only be asking a question and getting a lot of negative feedback and I thought the negative feedback was valuable for him to hear. But, looking at the thread now, I see that he is going beyond asking questions. So, I'm inclined to delete the thread. However, you want me to go beyond that and actually report the thread to the authorities. That brings up an entirely different set of issues and I probably need to leave the thread where it is until I resolve those.
According to the poster -- and nobody has contradicted him so I assume this is correct -- what he is discussing is technically not illegal. If that is the case, what makes this thread worth bringing to the attention of the authorities? If I were to contact the police, what crime would I say is being committed? I'm not trying to be obtuse, I really don't know the answer to this question. |
I agree with you, that said, it is very disturbing to think of him exploiting a vulnerable teenager, I believe there is laws on age gap that might be looked into. That said as the OP has reported it as abuse I would suggest the diligence of contacting a local sexual abuse center for clarification. |
Posted on other thread--hypothetically now an issue of age difference and also (now and later) the adult being in a position of authority as an employer.
"In Maryland, persons aged between 14 and 16 may consent to sex as long as the other partner is not more than 4 years older. Maryland’s age of consent law applies differently if the older partner is in a position of trust or authority over the younger partner. This might include teachers, coaches, employers, and clergy, among others. In such cases, it is best to assume that the age of consent is 18, or even 21." - See more at: http://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/maryland-age-of-consent-lawyers.html#sthash.kKgXB6Rd.dpuf |
OP I don't know your local laws but where I live if child abuse is at all suspected you are legally obligated to report it to two sources...I have been in this place and generally choose the school and a social worker...for legal obligation you may wish to call yourself. |
I am have no way of giving any identifying information. If I did I would. Jeff- the poster above is correct and with him having been her "employer" and father to kids she babysat for that makes him a figure of authority. The comments about him being with her in his car is disturbing and shows intent if nothing else. Trust me, it may be "legal" on the books but any good cop or detective will look into it. Especially with the age difference. She isn't 17 and he isn't 21. This is abuse of power and for him to come here and openly brag about it shows just how fucked up he is. |
Of course there is always the possibility that its entirely fiction. |
And that outweighs the chance its not a troll? No. |
If nothing is going to be done about this thread I will call it in myself. |
Well now it's just gone to name calling and insults back and forth. OP was either a troll who bugged off (hopefully) or a true creep who didn't get the whole "you da man" responses he wanted. What a cesspool of a thread, from both ends. |
At this point, I don't plan to contact the authorities. I am not sure what jurisdiction he is in. His post asks about Maryland, but the IP address looks like it is a DC location (though I can't be sure about that). The poster doesn't appear to have been back to that thread for awhile. I am not sure if the thread was serious to begin with. But, feel free to contact someone yourself. I will, of course, cooperate with any authorities that contact me. |
Here is what the OP of the "age of consent" thread just posted:
"OP here I have to fess up it was complete fiction. I am not close to 40 but even still I don't even know any teenagers or babysitters. What happened was I lost a bet about the age of consent and I was shocked it was so low. I wrote the post to stir the pot but didn't think about the ramifications of the emotions it would stir up and people who had been messed with. I feel stupid and immature and would like to apologize to any women who had a negative or visceral reaction. I'll step away from the keyboard." I'm going to delete that thread now. |
^Jeff, of course he will say that. He's not going to admit that he was seriously abusing children. I think at the very, very minimum it shows the guy has an active interest in abusing children, which tends to be characteristic of predators, many of whom end up acting on their fantasies. I think you should turn it over to authorities and let them handle it. I'm sure they will be grateful and you very well could prevent a serious crime and a child's (or children's) life from being ruined. The authorities will know what to do and can easily find out whether the guy is just joking as he claimed (though I dont know anyone in their right mind who would find this subject funny) or a serious predator. |
Don't be silly. |
New poster here. I think it's very disturbing that you allow a person who was called out for possible illegal doings to just "apologize." And then BAM, case closed. It makes me wonder when or if you would actually contact authorities. |
