"OP here I have to fess up it was complete fiction. I am not close to 40 but even still I don't even know any teenagers or babysitters. What happened was I lost a bet about the age of consent and I was shocked it was so low. I wrote the post to stir the pot but didn't think about the ramifications of the emotions it would stir up and people who had been messed with. I feel stupid and immature and would like to apologize to any women who had a negative or visceral reaction. I'll step away from the keyboard."

I'm going to delete that thread now.

New poster here. I think it's very disturbing that you allow a person who was called out for possible illegal doings to just "apologize." And then BAM, case closed. It makes me wonder when or if you would actually contact authorities.

You have the chronology wrong. I had already said several hours before the apology was posted that I wasn't going to contact the police. I make no apologies for having a very high bar before turning our users into the authorities.

You're an idiot. Is he doing something illegal on this site? No. Do you have proof that he has done something illegal, ever? No. You have got yourself wrapped up in a fantasy world where DCUM is more than an anonymous talk board. That's all it is.

Lesson learned. Next time this happens, someone should call the police first and they can look at it and then subpoena Jeff later

Does anyone seriously think the police would do something about this? Its such an utopia.

What do you mean? I would hope so. Better to be safe than sorry, anyway, and submit it for them to handle.

Well, I mean that there are so many children suffering various degrees of abuse in their homes, with known locations and known or suspected perpetrators. Social services and police/prosecutors are working together to help these children and hold the offender responsible. It can take years. I just don't think they have the resources to start digging in this, very vague suspected crime. Based on someones IP address and anonymous post here? I'm betting they will do nothing. What are they going to do? Knock on his door and ask who the girl is?

Well, then I guess let's not bother! I mean, after all, it happens all the time!

You never know, this could be someone who is already being investigated, or has regular contact with young children, whatever. Which is why it's helpful for police to look at it. If nothing happens, whatever. But we should do what we can to protect children.

Yeah, look at all the people that ignored Carraway. Pervert.

The police could lure the guy on here with fake posts. Like on dateline to catch a predator.

Did someone say that? An IP address is different from a street address, FYI. That's what people were talking about...

Right. He doesn't know if the poster is in DC or md. And there's nothing to indicate a crime in progress anyway. So...
