Oberlin

Tell me about Oberlin (only). If you've attended or have a DC there, I'd like to hear about their academics, activities, and your experiences. We've added Oberlin to our list but DC knows little about it and none of DC's friends have shown an interest so far.

I'm not looking to make a comparison to any other school, just Oberlin.

TIA.

Lena Dunham-like persons are the typical student

I lived in Oberlin for 2 years but did not attend the school.

My impressions were the conservatory is very good. The school itself is good. You'll get more of the PC crap there than most schools, if that matters to you. And the kids, by and large, tend to stop bathing by October.

Lots of NYC refugees there.

Can one assume she has a creative bent and Oberlin is known for its creative environment (music especially)?

If you didn't attend the school, how do you have concrete observations? Maybe the town/city of Oberlin? Acquaintances? Were you hanging around the non-bathers?

Very very liberal, quasi-hippy. Very concerned with social justice issues. Committed, engaging profs.

And that's a very good thing.

In the sense of creating a limousine liberal mentality... And instilling guilt over white privilege.

Check. Check. Check.

Well, OP, here you have it. Nothing but childish, non-productive comments. I doubt if these are parents (though a couple of comments are reasonable), but most likely high schoolers or silly college students.

You'll do better on College Prowler or College Confidential.
