| What do you guys know about these 2 places? What are the student bodies like? |
|
Connecticut College was my home college when I was in HS.
Connecticut is a really nice place to live I can tell you that. |
| Isn't Union the one so far north they have underground tunnels between building so the kids don't all freeze to death? |
| I have several relatives that went to union and loved it. It's in Albany, right? That's cold but could be worse. |
| Don't know union, but Conn College is a great school. Beautiful campus, small classes, lots of opportunities for internships and volunteering. Solid liberal arts education. |
| Conn college is definitely considered to be a much more prestigious college and is harder to get into - Knew two people that went and both loved it , |
More like Schenectady. |
No, that is SUNYA Albany. But the dorms are not connected to the academic buildings underground. You could get everywhere underground except for the library....which was a quick sprint up a staircase. |
Huh...they both seem like mediocre-plus schools. |
| Union College more highly ranked on USNW, but both are fine schools by those rankings. PP, here's hoping your kids get in HPY, because it sounds like that's the only way you might accept them. |

Graduate of Union. Yes it is in Schenectady, which is west of Albany in the Capitol District. Yes it is cold but there are no tunnels. It does not get the lake effect snow like Syracuse and Cornell which are further west.
Union is small but is interesting Liberal Arts school with a very strong engineering school. Large predominance of kids from NY, NJ, CT and MA with a mix of kids from other states. Hockey team is D1 so going to games can be a big deal. The social life can be limiting. Much of the social life revolves around Fraternities and Sororities. The college has tried to change that by having Minerva houses which have different themes. Each freshman is assigned to a Minerva to bring together different groups. Most of the Frat houses have been taken over to be Minerva's. Lots of community service is encouraged. Schenectady is not a great college town. It is pretty downtrodden as GE as fled the town. |
| Both are "hidden Ivies" |
Conn College isn't. You may be thinking of Trinity. |
| Conn College has no frats or sororities. |
And that's a problem...why? |
