Getting to the airport with two carseat kids

Anonymous
What is the easiest/most reliable way to get to the airport with two small children (5 and 3)? I won't be driving because we're departing out of IAD, returning to DCA, and my husband is out of town when we leave, but will be back in town to pick us up from DCA. So, it seems like the easiest thing to do would be to Uber/cab/shuttle to IAD. I've been checking Uber family daily (which we've never used but have heard of), but there are NEVER Uber family cars anywhere near us (Bethesda). What is another good option?

We will not be traveling with our carseats, but I was hoping to have carseats available to get to the airport, which is why I was excited about the Uber family option. Any ideas welcome.

You'll have to ask one of your friends to drive you.

Taxis don't have car seats ever, and I've never encountered an uber with more than 1 car seat for a kid.

Good luck.

So, throughout in this entire city, parents never go to the airport with their children through some sort of hired transportation? Seriously?

Is it possible to get to the airport with my three and 5 year olds without a carseat through hired transportation? I don't have anyone who could drive. My MIL lives nearby, but is fearful on highways.

You don't need a car seat in a taxi by law.

You can also reserve a taxi with a car seat ahead of time if you want.

Pretty sure there aren't any taxis that have two car seats. We have taken cabs/ubers to the airport with kids multiple times, but there never seems to be an uber family available when we need it. Those only have one car seat anyway. So the toddler just gets buckled in and the infant seat is easy to install.

Your options are to ask someone else to drive you, skip the car seats on the ride to the airport, or install th car seats yourself in the cab and take them with you.

Oh, you could try task rabbit? Hire someone to drive you in your car and then drop the car back at your house? They could lock it and then hide the key somewhere? I have a cousin who works for task rabbit and he has been offered some very bizarre jobs, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find someone to do this for you.

We just travel with our car seats. How will you drive away from the airport at your destination without them?

Thanks. I didn't even know skipping carseats was an option.

We're flying to my home state, where my mom's car already has two carseats installed for the kids, and she'll be waiting for us at the airport.

If your kids are big enough, buy or borrow BubbleBum booster and/or RideSafer travel vest. Use on the way to the airport and then pack into your bags.

Public transportation, including taxis, are exempt from needing a car seat.

Along these lines do you have a friend/neighbor/coworker that you could offer to pay to do this. I know I have coworkers that would jump at the chance to make some extra money and would be thrilled with the idea. For what you would pay an Uber driver you could probably find someone to do this.

This is one of those times you ask a friend. You can even offer to pay them for their time, since the issue isn't a free ride, it's just the car seats. They can even use your car, with the seats, and then return it to your house.

I have several friends who'd do this for me. You just have to realize it's an imposition and act accordingly.
