Getting to the airport with two carseat kids

Pretty sure there aren't any taxis that have two car seats. We have taken cabs/ubers to the airport with kids multiple times, but there never seems to be an uber family available when we need it. Those only have one car seat anyway. So the toddler just gets buckled in and the infant seat is easy to install.

Your options are to ask someone else to drive you, skip the car seats on the ride to the airport, or install th car seats yourself in the cab and take them with you.

Thanks. I didn't even know skipping carseats was an option.

Legally you may not need a car seat, but the laws of physics still apply and there is no way in hell I'd take my kids on 495 without being safely buckled in an appropriate seat.

Do you have a babysitter/whatever who you could pay to drop you off?

The five year old could use a booster(easy to take with) and then you only need one true car seat.

I'm sure you can request an uber family and they will come to you despite your not seeing them in Bethesda when you look.

For god's sake just let them buckle into a seatbelt for this one time. One of your two "carseat kids" is probably about 10 years old anyway.

I have a cousin who works for task rabbit and he has been offered some very bizarre jobs, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find someone to do this for you.

Along these lines do you have a friend/neighbor/coworker that you could offer to pay to do this. I know I have coworkers that would jump at the chance to make some extra money and would be thrilled with the idea. For what you would pay an Uber driver you could probably find someone to do this.

We have a neighborhood listserv, so I could perhaps put a request on there.

They're 5 and 3. My five year old is tiny, though - 32 pounds.

I've been looking every day this week to see if there are Uber Carseats available (just to know how frequent they are), and not one time have I seen an Uber carseat available. It makes me wonder if the Uber carseat program is even active yet.

Ask a friend to drive your car.

It's definitely active. I called one once accidentally.

To be fair, IAD is actually pretty far outside the city limits.

And why did you book your flights so that you flew out of one aiport, but are returning to another? What did you expect would happen?

All the time. I just don't use a car seat. That's how it's done.

Alternately, when he was smaller and I had time, I'd take metro. (Now he's big enough for a bubblebum.)

You could also drive your car to the airport, park there, and have your husband drive you back there to pick up the car when you return.

We lived on Capitol Hill so sometimes my kids would ride in a taxi to DCA without a carseat or booster seat or I used to take red top sedan and bring my carseats and booster seat. This was before Uber existed.

Ask a friend. Or combine friend + public transit. Car seats are exempt in taxis but it isn't like taxis are safer than any other car. Bethesda to IAD or DCA is a hike. I would not feel remotely safe with my kids riding without car seats for so long.
