| What kind of stats would an Out of State student need to get into Texas A&M? |
| Please don't do Aggy. They are the butt of jokes all over the southland. Take a close look at what their 'traditions' really are. |
| Great tech school. 89.5% are Texas residents so it is difficult to get in from out of state. |
This is not even remotely true. Texas A&M is a great school and very well respected through the South. OP, its going to be tough to get into out of State, all Texas students can attend if they are a certain top percent of their high schools (can't remember the exact number just now) so a lot of students have elected to go there - I wouldn't be surprised if it has become in recent years more of a popular place than UT-Austin to attend. |

A&M grad here (MS in Mechanical Engineering, Class of '91). I went there from New York, so I had that "fish out of water" experience. Very friendly student body, the engineering departments are top notch and I had a great experience. It is a very conservative campus, so if that's what you're looking for, then you won't find a better place.
And don't worry about the jokes. Every college is the butt of some jokes throughout their history. |
OP it's a fairly tough school to get into even as a resident. Not UT tough, but tough nonetheless. My step-daughter who grew up and still lives in Texas, attended A&M. She had solid HS grades, High B average, excellent ACT scores. To get in to A&M she had to actually transfer in from another university where she earned nearly all A's. She LOVED her A&M experience and there is a lot of school pride. She just graduated, Suma Cum Laude! Had a job lined up before she walked
Now our DD who is a Junior is also eyeing A&M, but she will be an out of state student just like yours. I think she'll have to go the same route, with transferring in. Or maybe legacy will help her. I think another thing that will help is that according to Naviance, NO ONE from our DD's HS has applied to A&M in a very long time (no shock there as we are in Bethesda), which usually helps your chances of getting in to a particular school. |
| My niece who grew in in MA teaches there and loves it. I'll point her to this thread |
