Registering for HS late.

Would it be an issue to register in Wootton for classes for next year 9th graders after official registration in February is over?

Because of some special circumstances Wootton is not our first choice (Surprise!) and not my child's home school now. However if my child will not be accepted to one of the HS we expect, we will be able (100% legally, so do not go there...) to switch my child to Wootton.

Do you have any experience with late registrataion (April or May) at Wootton for 9th graders?
Where any advanced classes denied, foreign language denied etc.?

Please share.

Please do not turn this discussion to why we have this situation, it is none of your business..

Why would you perceive it to be an issue? There are people that move in-bounds to high schools all the time. Where you may run into issues is that your DC may not get the electives they want, but there aren't that many electives to choose from in 9th grade anyway.

So if the only elective that we need is French 3, we are kind of safe?
Would it be issue with no space in Advanced/Honor classes and child pushed to regular classes?

Thanks.

We changed my childs schedule over the summer before 9th grade. No problem. Changed his schedule just this week for this semester..no problem. I wouldn't worry at all. It is a large school...and we all know MCPS does not worry too much about class sizes!

Although I realize you don't want to "go there," I would make 100% certain that you can actually transfer to Wootton. The COSA process is mysterious and sometimes what seems like a very legitimate reason is not so in the eyes of MCPS.

We do not need COSA...
We can legally go to Wootton, we just do not want to ... so do not worry...

If classes are full, he may not get his top choice, but he definitely can still attend the school.

What to do mean by choices?
Honor English, Honor PreCalc? US. Government?

Why not just register now and then if the other school comes through, send a note to the school withdrawing? People must do it all the time. isn't there a risk if you register late that some first choice classes will be full?

OP can't do it now, since states that Wootton is not home school now...

She can apply for the COSA now. The window opened on Monday. That would at least get that step out of the way.

I think you did not read posts above.
That family does not need COSA at all...

9th grade classes are pretty routine. I would worry more about very high level classes with only 1 section..

Moco high school teacher here - don't worry, they'll fit him in. I don't teach at Wootton, but I've got over 30 in all of my honors 9 English classes, and they just added a new student today.

Thirty in an honors ENGLISH class?? Wow...so glad we chose a private where my son has 17 in his regular English class. English should never have numbers so high.
