| Head and Shoulders works like a charm for my 10 yr old. We tried other stuff but the dandruff never went away completely. |
| It depends on the cause. Some "dandruff" is really psoriasis. Head and Shoulders will make that worse. T-Gel is the safest first option. |

My daughter is 13.5, and about twice a week she shampoos with Head and Shoulders, and the rest of the week just shampoos and conditions with her normal stuff. She has combination hair so that deep down at the roots it can get oily, but her hair is so thick and long and wavy, the tips can get dry. She was finding that the oiliness near the scalp was causing itching, and the Head and Shoulders really helps with that. Funny thing too was when we went through a bout or two of lice last summer (ugh), the lice combing eliminated all of her dandruff – so now she makes sure to really brush well and often and use a comb at the hairline.
Just on a slightly different note, though, a few years ago, when she first started going through early puberty, I noticed a tan scaliness on her scalp that was causing some itchiness. I noticed it after getting back from the beach and thought all the suntan lotion might have left residue on her scalp (she didn't apply it there obviously, but the spray tends to go everywhere). It almost looked like cradle cap from when she was a baby. I took her to the dermatologist and it was seborrheic dermatitis, mostly on the crown of her head. She said it was a combination of hormones and extra oils coming in near her roots. For that she had to use a special prescription shampoo, and the tan scaling came right off and never returned. We only used it for a little while, but it really worked. So you may want to check it out – regular dandruff, go with option 1 above and the tan stuff go with option 2.

| I've noticed my 7 year old had developed dandruff. Do people recommend the same products? She seems so young and I've stuck to all natural brands so far so I'm nervous about these. Thanks! |
| My 8 year old just developed dandruff. He uses T Gel and loves the smell. |
Massage scalp with coconut oil. Work it into the scalp with a comb. Wash and condition it out with normal shampoo and conditioner |
|
You could try the Trader Joes Tea Tree Tingle shampoo. If it works, it would be a less "chemically" option.
If it's persistent, I'd try to knock it out with Nizoral shampoo. |
| I like the Jason dandruff shampoo available at Whole Foods and similar. |

Massage a mixture of coconut oil and lemon juice in the scalp. Leave overnight and shampoo in the morning. You will be rid of the dandruff in 2 - 3 days completely.

| my kids and I also have flaking scalps, but it's just really dry skin because of winter. I think that's not so well treated by dandruff shampoos, but rather by conditioning the scalp really well and not washing hair as often. But I am not sure how to condition well, short of putting coconut oil on overnight as PP suggests. (How do you even do that?) |
I agree. Dandruff shampoos made my scalp drier, itchier, and flakier, including t-gel. I get this at Target: http://www.californiababy.com/therapeutic-relief-eczema-wash-19-oz.html Works for me. |

Any decent quality Tea Tree shampoo or Clear shampoo. Head and Shoulders is probably more than you need for mild seasonal dandruff.
