Expectant and Postpartum Moms

I'm curious to know what people wear home after c-sections.
Thanks in advance! |
| sweatpants. |

I didn't expect to have a C-section, so I packed the wrong clothes. I wish I would have brought one of my casual maternity dresses. That probably would have been the most comfortable thing to wear. In general, just stay away from anything with a waist that will rub up against the incision site.
For a few weeks afterwards, I basically wore granny sweatpants that I could pull up to my bra! |

A stretchy (but not clingy -- oh God, not clingy!) knit dress. So comfortable to not have to worry about a waistband.
Remember, you're still going to look 5-6 mos. pregnant. Pack maternity clothes or something oversized -- and have your husband take all photos from the front, sitting down. I have some full-body profile shots taken on our front steps; if I wasn't carrying the baby, it would look like we're on our way to the hospital. |
| The same maternity pants I wore on the way in. I still looked 6-7 months pregnant when I left the hospital. |
| Make sure you take a bunch of the hospital panties and pads home with you--you are going to need them!!!! |
| After my C-section I didn't feel comfortable wearing even maternity pants for a couple of weeks. I wore these velour pj bottoms (that I've had since high school) every day for a couple of weeks. They were pretty loose and I pulled them up way over my scar. A dress would also be good. I second bringing home tons of the mesh underwear from the hospital....I also wore them for a couple of weeks before I switched back to maternity underwear. |
| I had a pair of really stretchy maternity pants that I wore home. The softer, more room the better. I agree with PP 14:14...nab A LOT of those stretchy white panties that the hospital gives. Ask your nurses for extras. they are amazing and SO comfortable. I wore the pairs I got, washed them (except the first two pairs I wore) and wore them for a couple of weeks after delivery. |

Maternity yoga pants and a sweater for my January c-section. Lightweight maternity yoga pants and a tee shirt for my July one!
I brought home the mesh underwear too. Came in handy. As long as your waistband isn't tight against your incision site, you'll be fine. Oh, and another thing I learned the hard way the first time: I should have brought a fancy outfit for my baby to wear home. I remember it had tons of buttons and had to go over his head. My second baby wore a onesie with a few snaps up the front. |
| a stretchy cotton skirt (like the kind you find at Old Navy) and t-shirt. You'll want to wear loose fitting clothes for several weeks. |
| PP here. Meant to say I should NOT have put my newborn in a fancy outfit for the trip home! |
| I personally hated the hospital mesh panties. I was very glad that I read somebody's advice and packed some granny-style panties (my c-section was unplanned, after a long labor). Ditto for hospital pads - I found the regular store-bought overnight pads much more comfortable. But to each her own! |
| OP here! Thank you SO very much for your suggestions. I really appreciate it! |
| The exact same thing I wore into the hospital- maternity yoga pants and t-shirt. Depressing, but there was no way I could wear even the maternity jeans I'd brought. |
| The horrible mesh panties were the most comfortable things ever!! I actually had to wear them for weeks because they were the only things that wouldn't end up resting on my scar. Other than that some loose, comfy sweats. |
