Expectant and Postpartum Moms
Does anyone have suggestions on where I can look for some sort of sandal with no heel that is professional looking (enough) that I can wear it to work (where I wear suits or the pregnancy equivalent most days)? My feet and ankles are swelling something fierce and I really am looking for something that has nothing around the ankle. I can no longer wear my regular shoes, nor can I wear my sandals that has a strap around the ankle. I've found a "cute" pair of NineWest flip flops but I'm not quite they are quite up to a professional standard. Something with arch support would be ideal but at this point, I'm happy to just have something I can wear to meetings and then put my other flip flops that do have arch support to do the walking.
I'd buy some flats. I just got some great ones at Zappos. I can wear them to work, no socks, and they look good with nice pants and they are comfortable. I don't think flip flops are acceptable at the office, even if you're pregnant.

I started wearing crocks prima or alice dress flats http://www.crocs.com/products/women/outlet/. They work at work and are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.
|
I just got a pair of Fit Flops delivered to the office yesterday, and even though they have these subtle coppery sequins, I still think they look too beachy for work. (And my office sounds more casual than yours.) Disappointing.
I would go with the flats like one of the PPs said.
flats for sure. please oh please don't wear crocs. nothing says you've folded in the towel on how you look like a pair of crocs. even pregnant, you can do better than that.
How about mules? Most probably have a bigger heel than you want, but you could probably find some flatter versions. Those work for me because they only need to fit in the toe. I find flats have become painful with the swelling of my feet.
OP here - thank you for your suggestions. Any thoughts of shoes with some air circulation? I'm really reluctant at even the prospect of having to put my swollen feet into flats when it's hot. I can't imagine and not it's not even July yet!
Agree with others who say flats. I wore flip-flops to work during the summer during one of my pregnancies, but my office is business casual. It wouldn't have worked with a suit. Go on zappos.com -- they have a ton of cute flats, and their delivery is insane and returns are free and super-simple. So order a few pair, try them on, send the rest back.
PP here, and just saw your post OP. Try skimmers -- they tend to have very open cuts and fit the foot less tightly.

OP, about flats and air circulation, you can find flats that have little holes in them. Something like this for example:
http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/Anne-Klein-New-York-Andrika-Gold-Metallic-Nappa/3626103/product.html I personally don't like this particular kind but this is just to give you an idea of what I am talking about... |
I bought some Teva sandals (they don't look like the water shoes, but a few steps up from that) with thin straps that work well in my office -- although I would say we have a business casual or even more casual type of environment. They give your foot lots of air, I love them in the summer. (They definitely don't look like flip flops, either.)
My feet are huge, esp. on top so most flats don't work for me. Another vote for Crocs--they are wonderful!

Those flats have holes too and look comfortable:

Tory Burch Flats or flip flops are perfect.
