Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| you can try zappos and buy a pair in a large size in a wide. I've bought a couple of wide pairs already because my feet are always swelling. also, have you tried wearing compression stockings with your shoes. that helps me...i got some hospital grade ones. |
| I just bought the Lilly P. gold bumble flat flip flops. Love them! |
| Cole haan has some sandles with some platform that makes it look a little less casual than flip flops but you don't have to deal with too much of an incline that shoes with heals will have. |
| OP, how about slides? I think they're a step up from flip flops. But honestly, I'll tell you this, I work in a VERY formal environment (I'm a lobbyist) and I have showed up to meetings in flip flops (summer) and sneakers (winter). Yes, I'm wearing them with a suit so they look silly but I have sciatica and my doctor told me to wear comfortable shoes and I'm taking his advice seriously. Yes, I realize that women don't want to feel like they're asking for special concessions b/c they're pregnant, but goodness, there ARE real side effects to pregnancy that sometimes have to be accomodated. I say you get a point for the suit and what you wear on your feet is nobody's biz but your own. For those with inflexible office policies, I'd consider taking one swollen foot and put it up on the boss's desk and say "can you help me shove a business appropriate shoe onto this fat foot, then?" (But perhpas a doctor's note saying open / comfortable / supportive / whatever shoes are required might be smarter). Good luck! |

So cute slides are a bit harder to find than expected!
Here is a link to a ton (you know how to use like.com I assume?) to get you started -- beware, most are heinous. Then a few links that might work: http://www.like.com/womensshoes-search--sandals--style-10506 These are kind of ugly, but maybe if they're just for 3 months okay? http://www.shoebuy.com/easy-spirit-sealbay/245086/525445?cm_mmc=like-_-none-_-none-_-none Again, wouldn't be my first choice, but we're trying for specific comfort, right? http://www.naturalizer.com/Shopping/ProductDetails.aspx?p=EC0215829&pg=3004831 Less ugly, not great http://www.naturalizer.com/Shopping/ProductDetails.aspx?p=EC0217363&pg=3005004 Anyway, good luck! |

I got something like this for work:
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7325295/c/5406.html I'm not sure I'll like the top straps as my feet swell more but the straps are stretchy on mine. The mesh makes them more breathable. Right now when I wear them to work, I usually wear trouser socks with them but I'm sure at some point I'll stop wearing the socks. (During my first pregnancy I lived in Clark mules.) These type of shoes seem to be everywere. And in nude/taupe or black, I think they blend in enough for the office. |

Please dont wear flip flops to work! Outside of appearance, there are safety issues (in fact your employer may have a difficult time balancing pregnancy vs. foot safety needs). I do not mean to sound completely ridiculous, but open toed shoes at work are generally not permitted, with flip flops leading the charge because ANYTHING at work can hurt your feet....
Best of luck and I remember that discomfort... |
| Another vote for Cole Haan Nike Air |
I always crack up when I hear safety issues related to flip flops. I've been wearing flip flops around for years and have never violated my foot too badly aside from a stubbed toe here and there. Yes, if OP works in a metal shop and wants to replace heavy protective work boots with flip flops that's a bad idea. But in the general office environment, what are they so afraid of? You will get a paper cut on your toe? You might trip on your flip flop? Hey, I trip all the time -- flip flops or not! |
| I'm the "safety poster" and I agree with you - however litigation, workers comp and the like have gotten completely out of hand in this country...companies are CYA... |

Oh for god's sake . . . your pregnant with swollen feet. Wear what is comfortable.
I wore flip flops and the dreaded Croc all over, including to/from work. I kept some low healed sling backs or strappy sandals that I would use for meetings, etc. But, once safely back in my office, the other shoes were on my feet. |
I'm the one you're quoting and just wanted to say that I didn't mean to mock you or your statement, re-reading mine it seems like I was and I didn't mean to. I am, however, mocking the corporate policy. We're not allowed to wear flip flops either (i work for an association and we're pretty casual, too). I could see them saying that it's unprofessional, but they actually use the safety line, which does crack me up. I wear flops anyway and have never been "sent home," as the HR handbook threatens. Then again, I do have a back up pair of pumps in my office, just in case. |
| I also say "wear whatever you want"....I lived in one pair of black maternity pants so I could wear my beat up black Ecco clogs - I figured it sort of "blended"...keep one pair of nice shoes under your desk to cram your feet into when you need to... |

See these! A T Strap could be a good idea.

| Flip flops offer no support - at least the cheap ones. When I was pregnant, my feet needed extra support for the additional weight I was carrying. You should check out Comfort One Shoes near Dupont Circle. Not cheap, but lots of options and the shoes will last a long time. |
