Gonzaga Kairos Vandalism

There’s no other shoe... there are Gonzaga parents who are writers for the Post. This was not some huge scoop.

Seriously? No suspensions? The destruction that these Gonzaga boys inflicted could have easily led to felony level criminal charges but instead they get a slap on the wrist. And none of this would appear on their disciplinary records that any college admissions officer would ever see. If it is true that some of the boys involved have been previously cited for disciplinary action what kind of lessons are they truly learning?

That is ridiculous.
And should be embarrassing

AND ADMINISTRATORS.
Why do they get a pass?

You could easily make a case for also blaming the parents. Isn't that what happened when minority kids sold drugs, the parents were blamed? Why are these wealthy parents not blamed? They raised these kids.

Also, I doubt the administrators told them to destroy property? Look, kids are spoiled jerks, parents protect them and yell at the teachers for trying to discipline and most administrators don't want the kids to leave ( less money) so they put up with the shit that the kids do.

Yup. As a parent, wouldn’t you be mortified your DS behaved in such a disrespectful, immoral, entitled manner? Yet it seems the focus is in making sure these kids can still get into a good college. Unless sitting out a season of crew will impact crew scholarships? That might be the passive punishment.

We’re they suspended?

Do highschools have to report suspensions on official transcripts for college apps?

I am sure virtually every parent would be mortified by such behavior by their child yet not want it to effect their college applications. Such a thought process would hardly be limited to Gonzaga parents.

I have a genuine question for all of those being so critical. Even though you're a great parent, has your DC ever done something wrong and embarrassing? If your DC was involved in an event like this, would you be so adamant that all involved be expelled? And don't say my kid would never be involved in something like this. There are many wonderful parents who have kids that really screw up now and then. Take a look at your own teenage years. Did you ever do anything really stupid? I consider myself to have been a really good kid. My parents were amazing. But there are a few incidents from when I was a teen that, had I been caught, could have affected my future. I'm amazed by the blanket accusations and statements made about all of these kids, their parents, and an entire school. It's so vindictive.

No, neither I, nor any of my friends, would have done something like this. The privilege to screw up on a grand scale and expect no consequences belongs to wealthy white males.

You didn’t really answer the question.

I went to a prep school in New England, grades 6-12. Three months before graduation, 2 boys were caught smoking pot on campus and were expelled. Both were from very wealthy families, and one still had 2 younger siblings at the school. Fair or not? How about if it was your son? And yes, this a true story.

I have had family going to Catholic schools since the early 1900's. Some to GZ.... many.

50% of our families have had 1 or 2 kids get expelled from a school. It's how it works. It really has not "affected their future"... but it was a nice kick in the a$$.

It's not the end of the world and it does not mean the kids are bad.

Maybe GZ doesn't want to miss out on a Kimsey or Plank... but maybe they wouldn't have become Kimsey or Plank had they never been expelled.

and now... their lives are in ruin?

Do you think that any kids committing the same act from other schools or parts of the country should have received only a slap on the wrist?

Dig deep. I’m sure there’s something you did that you’re not proud of. Unless you were perfect.

There are plenty of things I did that I wasn't proud of, but none of them would've gotten me expelled or even suspended.
