| Please stop posting nonsense. If it's a real problem at MCPS then please show us credible facts. Otherwise, it's just fearmongering. |

Your friends may be genuinely afraid, but I know many kids both in CAP and SMACS at Blair and the very idea of any of them being recruited into a gang is ludicrous. |
Obviously we have gangs in MoCo. But I don’t believe that mcps is keeping the gang members in school to boost graduation rates. Gang members, as a demographic, are not successful academically. Gang life leaves little time for homework and science projects, what with all the recruitment, mischief making, and parties. It’s even stranger that Latino parents wouldn’t want their kids go to one of the top rated academic programs on the east coast for fear that they will sit next to an MS-13 member and suddenly turn to a life of crime. These scenarios are sort of crazy, if you want me to be honest. |
You apparently didn’t read the article, it talks mostly about MoCo - but interviews a gang task force person from NoVa. It mentions the case of the 15 year old from MoCo who was found murdered in Springfield. |
Sure Jan. |
Yes, it was MS-13 in VA |
This doesn't even make sense. |
This is TRAGIC!! |
NP: Article summary -- 1) The article talks about gang activity in MoCo county and does mention recruitment in schools-- focused on Gaithersburg 2) The NOVA task force person makes it clear that the problem is also in Northern Virginia 3) The person implies that areas with high Latino populations are particularly vulnerable My takeaway: Latino families should be concerned about gang recruitment in predominantly Latino areas in the DMV area; everyone else, no. |
So you think the only thing to be concerned about is recruiting? Not the increase in violence and other issues that are related to gangs? |
|
Still unable to provide a evidence with regarding recent gang ac MCPS?
Thought so... |
The poster didn't say that. But I'm sure you agree that it's a far tougher road for a Latino to navigate high school keeping clear of MS13 than it would be for an anglo kid. For a Latino, the danger of gangs is much higher, not just from gangs themselves, but from authorities who are far more ready to believe you are in a gang simply because you are Latino. For an anglo kid, the danger of falling victim to gang violence is much lower. That doesn't mean it's not a concern, but there are degrees of risk. |
Yes, that was my point. |
