Teen Mom 2

Has anyone seen the previews for the next season???
Jenelle is pregnant AGAIN!
Chelsea is too, but that was expected.
Kailyn and Javi are not doing well at all.
And Leah is still a disaster.
There was a reunion behind the scenes episode that came out last week that was really good.

Kailyn and Javi are getting divorced and he currently has a new girlfriend (as shown in his instagram), although they're filming for Couples Therapy, which is...interesting.

Jenelle's baby, Ensley Jolie Eason, is due at the end January. Will her boyfriend be in jail at the time? Cliffhanger!

Chelsea and Cole's son is due in February. I'm predicting... a normal name, maybe?

Leah, ROFL. Good God. Although she has posted that she was admitted to real college, so good for her. For now. Her opportunities for success are already so severely limited, so baby steps count.

Kail and Javi went on Couples Therapy for the money. The producers had originally signed Jenelle and her mother but they didn't want her on there after she became pregnant. Something in the contract about medical risk.

When watching the behind the scenes show last week, it was apparent again that Jenelle was on something. She has an explosive temper, as shown in the previews...again. For her to be calm at any point has to be because she is medicated. Jenelle is also wildly jealous that everyone had congratulated Chelsea for her second child, but is criticizing Jenelle's third. I also think there is something off with Jenelle's latest soulmate. Hopefully she figures it out winner than later and finally gets the right mental health treatment.

I hope Leah gets her life together. But she has been coddled as much as Jenelle, with the exception that Jenelle admits to being a drug user. Hopefully she really does return to school.

Agreed.
She's gotten away with using her failed marriages, twins, Allie's health issues, etc. all as excuses for poor parenting and obvious substance abuse issues. It was laughable that she accused MTV of misleading editing when she was clearly driving under the influence of something. Not to mention her frighteningly thin frame. She needs serious help and no one is calling her out on it, but Corey. I don't get why her mom is such an enabler. Doesn't she care about the safety of her grandchildren?!?!

I will preface this by saying that my grandparents were from West Virginia, and much of my childhood was spent taking trips to visit family that lived there, back in the holler. I am still in contact with cousins who have moved up to town/city, but still live in West Va. So the rest of this post is not meant to dump on WVa. It is a beautiful state filled with some of the most kind, unselfish people you will ever meet.

That said... Leah just seems indicative of the cycle of poverty, lack of opportunity, and bad decisions that haunts isolated areas like where she lives. Her mom is such an enabler because she feels strong loyalty to the family, and giving the "tough love" that we may see as necessary, would appear to her as turning her back on her child, which she would never do. Couple that with the fact that nobody in this family seems particularly bright. Even Jeremy, who called Leah out on her drug addiction and has been vocal about how messed up their relationship was, has done little to protect his own child from her destructive, neglectful parenting, which shows that he doesn't see it as a huge deal. But then again, he posts pictures on social media of 3-year-old Addie holding a rifle, so his judgment might not be so top-notch either.

Corey reminds me of a lot of my relatives that live there. Good head on his shoulder, strong work ethic, strong family support from people who also have good heads on their shoulders. He was raised country, and might not parent the way DCUM does, but he is going to protect his children because in his world, that's what a man does. In Leah's world, I just don't know. The cycle of teen pregnancy, broken marriages, etc, just continues and usually includes drug addiction, domestic violence, and abuse. Leah's own mother was married at 15, had children as a teen, and lived on food stamps. The bar for Leah has not been set very high. I do not care for her at all, but she has no role models and although her life is a mess and she is a neglectful parent, "doing well" for her would probably still seem neglectful to a lot of people. Knocking off the drugs, not driving while high, and getting the kids to school mostly on time most days would probably be success for her. Unhealthy meals, lack of bedtime, not following doctor's orders, girls' mediocre performance in school, multiple boyfriends/roommates around her children, maybe even another child in a short-term relationship, would probably all still be okay with her.

Hopefully she can get something accomplished with school, but I'm not very optimistic. She reminds me a lot of Chelsea in terms of life goals, though obviously Chelsea is on a different level. But Chelsea had modest technical school dreams, worked hard to get that GED (which actually is pretty difficult), eventually made it through school and even held a job, and is now in a stable relationship, building her family. She had a lot of hiccups along the way, but she has really matured. She may never work again, and she's created a situation in which she doesn't have to. I imagine she would be really happy and fulfilled as a stay at home mom, content to have a good guy like Cole be the provider. I think Leah would be happy in the same situation, but unfortunately, she lacks the ability to make it happen.

This was a very compassionate and honest response and helped me better understand their perspectives.

How can Barbara think Janelle is unfit to mother Jace, but is fit enough for the other two janelle has in her custody?

Barbara can't handle another one so she has kept quiet about Nathan's kid.

She doesn't think Janelle is fit, but it's clear that raising Jace has been hard for her. Kaiser also has a father and another set of grandparents--Jace has nobody.

I watched every episode from the start but I can't remember, what happened to Jaces father? Everyone else is coparenting even if it isn't ideal, except him

He was a few years older and working in another state, although they had been in a multi-year relationship. He basically disappeared. They did a paternity test but never even tried to get child support from him.

They did try to get support. He appeared in at least one of the early reunions and that was a point of contention for Barbara. She may have cancelled it though when she cancelled Jenelle's order.

That doesn't fly...I mean if, as the grandma, she REALLY believes Janelle is unfit, you're not going to sacrifice your other grandkids because you know that maybe 48 hours out of every two weeks those grandkids get a break from their mom...uh, no. I agree that she thinks she is unfit but she can't handle another kid, let alone two, so she says nothing....well, she says a lot, but not about getting the other two.

Wtf is she supposed to do? Janelle is a shitty mother who makes bad decisions and lets scary men be around her kids. But they are fed and clothed, she doesn't beat them. Janelle voluntarily gave up custody of Jace. There's nothing to suggest that authorities would remove Kaiser if Barbara pursued that. Barbara can't just decide she wants to take Kaiser and the baby that'as not even born yet. She's not sacrificing those two. I think Janelle is unfit, but I'm not seeking custody of her kids either.

I think Barbara is still waiting for Janelle to grow up and get herself together, so she can be a better mom to Kaiser. Jace is a lost cause; Barbara is his mom.

Barbara is approaching retirement age and works at Walmart and raises her 8 year old grandson. Jenelle is about to have her third kid, Barbara cannot take them all in the second jenelle spits them out.
