Capital Cotillion for Beauvoir Son

The Cotillion is a waste of time and money. Get your boy involved in some sports to make a man out of him!

I think you mean to be funny. But it is this kind of attitude - which is quite rampant - which makes the Cotillion experience a nice counterbalance to such silliness.

The philosophy of Capital Cotillion is that every child should have the opportunity to learn the social skills that will enable them to become responsible and considerate adults. Therefore; there is no application or screening process. We are open to all.

As far as not getting an invite the next year, I don't think there is any black listing, they may not think to send you an invite again ( postage is expensive) but I can't imagine them saying no to your enrolling your child if you contact them and there is a space. Because it is so open minded and the kids actually enjoy Capital Cotillion the classes do get filled so it is important to sign up quickly. As far as the family that couldn't afford it I think at one point they offered aid to those that couldn't afford it but i just looke don the web site and did not see it mentioned. I may have seenit in the invitation.

My son and all his buddies go and they really enjoy it, who would have thought the boys would like it so much!

Three things from an old Washingtonian, and old family. The dance classes that used to be offered at Beauvoir had nothing to do with Ms. Shippens. Ms. Shippens was racist and my uncle was kicked out for inviting an AA girl to a dance (and tipping off the Washington Post). Suffice it to say, the next generation of my family was not invited.

I went to deb balls in the early nineties but was never a deb. Please remember that the Capital Cotillion will accept anyone who applies and Ms. Simmons won't.

My oldest did the Cotillion until 5th when she said the girls got mean. We were invited from a public school.

Spring Valley did not used to sell houses to Jews or AA's. The Chevy Chase club did not used to admit Jewish people. I can easily believe that some of this is still going on at Ms. Simmons. I also believe that it is no longer relevant to most sensible people's lives.

Two questions: are there still debs in DC?

How are the Cotillion classes on table manners and what does one do if you only want to start this non-exclusive nonsense in high school?

Sorry, but I don't get this. What does Cotillion have to do with parental egos?

NP. But I think the notion is Cotillion is one of those things the "right people" do (like go to a Cathedral School, belong to Chevy, vacation on Nantuckett, etc.).

How wrong are you if you go to Maret, belong to Columbia, and vacation in Rehoboth?

Well, my Grams would say isn't that where the French, Catholics, and gays go, respectively. LOL.

May she RIP.

I actually know more than one family at Cotillion who do all of the above.

I really did LOL!

Does Cotillion cost the same as Mrs Simpsons?

And FWIW, my DS and his friends loved Capital Cotillion last night.

I suppose it's an indication of what those in the DC area consider important.

I can't believe people attend, let alone pay, for this crap.

My son, who doesn't belong to a country club or vacation in Nantucket, loves it because he gets to dance with girls. For him it is that simple! I don't mind paying for it, n the same way I don't mind paying for rec basketball for him, or piano lessons--just another extracurricular he likes.

Equating this antiquated pile of crap with playing basketball? LOL.

Your vulgar and loutish post is Exhibit A to prove why such things are still worthwhile.

Cotillion is for loser moms desperate for something to brag about in the carpool line.
