As far as the family that couldn't afford it I think at one point they offered aid to those that couldn't afford it but i just looke don the web site and did not see it mentioned.  I may have seenit in the invitation.

Three things from an old Washingtonian, and old family.  The dance classes that used to be offered at Beauvoir had nothing to do with Ms. Shippens.  Ms. Shippens was racist and my uncle was kicked out for inviting an AA girl to a dance (and tipping off the Washington Post).  Suffice it to say, the next generation of my family was not invited.

I went to deb balls in the early nineties but was never a deb.  Please remember that the Capital Cotillion will accept anyone who applies and Ms. Simmons won't.

My oldest did the Cotillion until 5th when she said the girls got mean.  We were invited from a public school.

Spring Valley did not used to sell houses to Jews or AA's.  The Chevy Chase club did not used to admit Jewish people.  I can easily believe that some of this is still going on at Ms. Simmons.  I also believe that it is no longer relevant to most sensible people's lives.

Two questions: are there still debs in DC?

How are the Cotillion classes on table manners and what does one do if you only want to start this non-exclusive nonsense in high school?[/quote]
