You are missing the point. Nobody who is currently in Oakton is getting moved out of Oakton. Like no current students. Those kids are staying/grandfathered in. It's only going to be new students. |
Right. If they had just made Scenario 1 where all of Crossfield goes to Carson-Skyview, the reaction would be very different. It's almost like someone has a contact in Gatehouse and suggested this as a way to get a united pro-Oakton front!! Hm.... |
If you think that’s off the table forever, you’d have to ask why PP was going on about why Democrats lose elections when we live in a county where Democrats routinely continue to trounce Republican candidates. It all depends on whether there are pockets of growth in Fairfax despite the expected county and nation-wide decline in the number of K-12 kids. Build enough new housing near Oakton and eventually Crossfield gets moved. Build enough new housing in Tysons and eventually Forestville gets moved. It might happen; it might not. But if it does it won’t be because it was an “equity fever dream,” so let’s make the best decisions for Skyview and the nearby communities now. |
Amazing that the far right and far left are teaming up to try to destroy the school system with these boundary moves. Equity warriors went through the worm hole and popped out MAGA. |
What are you going on about? How do you open a new neighborhood school and not adjust boundaries? |
Or, maybe you just hold a minority position! I don't give a sheet how much you paid your house that is 30 min away from your preferred school. Boundaries have never been guaranteed. It is explicitly stated in the boundary finder tool. |
Nor does it seems that you care about the caliber of FCPS. When did you lose sight of the learning? And, if you think I’m in the minority, you should go to the next boundary meeting and see how many people agree with me. Or you can go review the public comments from the last two years. Overwhelmingly in my camp, not your equity warrior/MAGA camp. |
If you live in an area likely to move to Skyview and you’re either happy about it or indifferent, why show up at a boundary meeting? They’ve already bought the school and directed Reid to open it as a neighborhood school. There’s nothing in it for me to attend a meeting and listen to 10 people complain about why they shouldn’t get moved from Oakton. If your position is that boundary stability is paramount and they should never open new high schools or adjust boundaries, (1) you’ve lost that argument as Skyview is opening whether you like it or not; and (2) you should have spent less time here complaining about “equity warriors” and more time lobbying FCPS to expand crowded schools like Chantilly and McLean. |
Caliber of learning? I have news for you- Calculus BC at Oakton will follow the same curriculum as Calculus BC at Skyview. Also, don't make the mistake of thinking loudest screeching in the room = majority opinion. It's just not. You should really stop while you can because you are making a fool of yourself here. |
| I wouldn't bother trying to reason with an Oakton/RIO mom. Some of their clique is nice, but for the most part, they're a nightmare. |
One of the most vocal posters here is a Langley poster trying to defend the proposition that long commutes to schools are fine and should not be disturbed for any reason. If the School Board says eliminating the long commute of Crossfield kids to Oakton should be a priority, they view that as a personal threat since kids travel even longer distances to Langley. It would be nice if they’d just let FCPS do the work for Skyview that needs to occur, but they think they are holding down the fort. |

The two scenarios basically have the two sides of Franklin Farm pitted against one another. Scenario 1 splits some of the Oak Hill kids from their community whereas Scenario 2 splits some of the Crossfield kids from their community. Though I think a lot of the Crossfield kids that would be split off don’t actually live in Franklin Farm — just nearby. For some reason people want to lump a bunch of streets in with Franklin Farm that are not actually part of the neighborhood. I suspect they are doing this so they can use messaging like “keep Franklin Farm together” and don’t want the consultants to pick up on the fact that they’re actually in separate neighborhoods off West Ox. I am personally more sympathetic to the Oak Hill crowd because Scenario 1 does involve up splitting up a neighborhood, and those families have not been whining throughout this process.
It would’ve been easier to just send all of Franklin Farm to Skyview if RIO hadn’t put up their fit. I live in the neighborhood by the way, so spare your comments about me wanting to move other people‘s kids. |
