I think everyone on both sides of the political spectrum agrees that:

1. Housing is too expensive

2. Medical care is either unavailable or too expensive

3. Mental health care is either unavailable or too expensive

4. Treatment is either unavailable or too expensive

5. The elderly and severely disabled simply aren’t equipped to work a job that covers everything…particularly when they have costly medical bills.

6. This is so complicated and costly that it’s impossible to easily fix this at the necessary scale. This is what happens after many decades of not addressing the multiple crises: housing, treatment, etc.

This was predicted. DC kept the schools closed for too long during COVID. Mayor Bowser tried her best to get the schools open earlier but the teachers union and the Council fought her. Now we’re paying the price. This was predictable. Now time for a change.
