Do these cases go to trial? Do the children/victims get questioned by the defense? Seems unbearable.
Will the defense atty try for some sort of deal or push for acquittal?
Unbelievable. Good that he has to stay locked up for now

Thomas is going to fight against the charges.

Then he must have hired a hell of a team. Maybe his Australian government is helping with funding for his defense?

He did. Read previous posts for details.

How does someone who lives in an apartment and sends kids to public school afford a lawyer like this? Or were those choices made to gain more access to vulnerable children?

Not the point of this thread, but don’t be classist. People who live in apartments and send kids to public schools deserve good legal representation. You have no idea from the outside how other families manage their finances.

Well, the expensive lawyer couldn't get the judge to approve bail, so he is sitting in jail in an orange jumpsuit until trial.

No surprise, he's an obvious flight risk.

Don't be lazy - read the previous 2 pages, it's there.

But Eaton school district so that's nice. And on a nice stretch of Mass Ave.

I don't put blame on the wife. She had to leave for the kids. They are nice kids, very young also. Thomas was probably terrible to her and she stayed for the kids.

Her honest testimony under oath would have helped her pedophile husband get locked up for a long time. Not only would her own children be safer, but all our children as well.

Because of this, and given that his attorney is aggressive, we aren't pursuing pressing charges. We'd really like to do the right thing and add to the existing charges, but we know how the deposition would go, and it's not worth the cost to our kid's mental health.

My heart goes out to your kid and your family. And begs the question- how many (not-yet-on-record) victims are out there? I’ve seen at least 2 posters comment that their kid was abused by Mahony but child is not willing to come forward.

I am so sorry. I understand your decision.

Would you mind sharing how you know Thomas?

I'm wondering the same!

Does his lawyer have the right to depose a child? Aren't cases like this handled differently, through a video recording of an advocate talking to/questioning the child?

Even if you don't plan to press charges, are you able to file a police report so another victim is on the record?

Revealing that would give one too many clues to my kid's identity, and that is something they are incredibly fearful of. (They are older than eight, I'll say that much.) They feel like they're the only one in their community who was affected (it wasn't in the apt. building), but I simply can't imagine that was the case.

Yes, his lawyer has that right. And I know what kinds of questions they can ask. And they're brutal.
