Middle Names...

I told myself I'd never be that person who solicited name advice on DCUM, but here I am. Long story short: my grandmother passed away this AM. We are jewish and my husband wants to change our chosen middle name for baby girl due in 10 days! Her name started with a J. Baby's first name is going to be Madeleine. Original middle name was Drew (for another grandmother).

Nothing is working in my mind, I think bc I had already picked out Madeleine Drew in my head. Thoughts on the following:

Madeleine James
Madeleine Jayne
Madeleine Jo

Any other J suggestions? Joy is out because of another family name. Thank you!

Madeleine June? Also, prepare for people to lose their shit on you for even considering James as a middle for a girl.

Unhelpful.

I'm sorry about your grandmother.
What about June?

Not sure if it's an option, but what was your grandmother's middle name? Can you use that letter to honor her?

Let us know what you decide, and good luck.

10:08 here. I said June before seeing 10:04, so that's two independent votes for June!

Thanks for the kind words. Just out of curiosity - do you like June better than Jayne?

Yes! Unfortunately I don't like the name Jane in any spelling. June seems more unusual and both poetic (when older) and cute (for a kid). Is the middle name initial not an option?

She used her maiden name as a middle name - which is an O.

NP here

I like Jane better than June, but I like June better than Jayne.

Jane is one of my favorite names, but I think the 3 syllable - 1 syllable combo is sing songy and predictable. So my first choice would be something longer

Madeleine Julianne

Madeleine Jeannette

Madeleine Josephine

Etc . . .

Interesting. Her name was Jeanette!

Of the choices you've listed, Madeleine Jayne is my favorite. I prefer Jane to Jayne but I think it's a lovely sounding name. June is also a cute choice.

I wouldn't give James as a middle name to a girl unless it was a family surname. (But that might be because I'm planning to give my baby boy the middle name James after a deceased family member.)

I wouldn't give Madeleine as a name. Sounds trashy.

Disagree. Popular does not equal trashy. We're not talking about Madisyn here.
