| I am considering buying an older home that only has one bathroom that needs to be gutted. Ideally, I would do this before I moved into the home but wondering how long a gut job renovation of a bathroom would take. Anyone have experience that can tell me how long their renovation took? Thanks. |
| We did a gut job. My husband gutted the bathroom to save money and took 2 days. We had a contractor renovate the bathroom, which took 4.5 days (8a-5p). |
PP again: forgot to add that this assumes that the tile, vanity, toilet, etc. you want are in stock and ready for pick up/delivery. Add 2-3 weeks if not. |
Thanks. May I ask how much it cost? |
| About $8K; $2.5K for labor (not including my husband!). We used 4x12 white subway tile which saved us a lot of money. The vanity and toilet were on the expensive side. We had plumbing issues (old house), which added about $1.5K to the cost. |
| Ours took 2 weeks and was about $15K. |
Not OP, but what did you use for shower floor if you did shower. Pan, cement or tile. Hardy Backer or GL RedGard membrane if you know. Studying up. Thanks. |
NP but the shower pan is cheap looking. Suitable for apartments maybe. Use tiles. |
| Kohler cast iron shower pans rock! |
| Ours took 8 business days, cost $10k with labor and supplies, mostly from Home Depot. Typical small master bathroom in a 1960's house in the area. I went with the top rated bathroom contractor on Yelp and was satisfied with their work. DH and I did nothing ourselves other than shop for all the supplies you can see (tub, vanity, toilet, etc.) |
Also NP, but I'll take a durable shower pan any day over having to maintain a grouted tile shower floor. Even the best quality grout will stain and wear away and eventually leak over time. |
Will you share the name of your bathroom contractor please? |
We did a custom shower floor (cement/membrane/mortar/tile). Hardie board walls with Redgard. |
| Do it before you move in! We have that issue and our bathroom is functional so we left it as we'd have to move out. Now we are putting a second one in so we can remodel the first (and two is nice to have). |
Thanks! |
