Here's my instinct. With those scores, your child is bright but not going to make the AAP cut.
Do you have WISC scores? If they are good, submit them now. If not, I would parent refer, have a WISC done, and then submit that on appeal if necessary. An appeal needs new information, FYI. |

People have gotten in with lower scores (I know). There are many reasons why scores can be low/non-representative. LD issues; kid is distracted/sick. Child has anxiety. Or the child did not sleep well. There are more, but my brain is not listing them right now.
In our case, my DD was very distracted before to CogAT, and scored similar to this. She was admitted to AAP. This was years ago, in 2009. FWIW, she had a very good GBRS. |

I woukd suggest waiting, retesting in fourth and then referring if the scores improve enough.
If your kid is immature with regards to test taking skills or simply a slow burner, waiting a little will be the best thing for them. |

My child got a composite cogat 123 (the highest subset was 127 on verbal) and 111 on nnat. I have always known that words were her strength, not numbers. I asked the teacher back in November if she would be good for aap and teacher said yes!
So now I hesitate to refer, because scores or so so. But the funny thing is, they are really similar to her brothers, who was in pool and in aap, just because he got 130 on the nnat. He is a real math kid and struggled with a lot of the writing early on, which she would ease through and enjoy all of the writing. and at our school, you can opt out of advanced math if you want. Just some thoughts. I will probably refer her, but not with anything extra, and certainly not a wisc or appeal. |

| one more thing about the above post 15:25. there is no test taking anxiety for her. her scores, I feel, really reflect her. |

\ Well, her MS report cards are mostly A's with one B. She has no problem keeping up. In her good classes, she is tops (Soc. Studies, science). |
