| When will they post the coach slate for their 2nd, 3rd, etc teams? Tryouts have been going on for a while. |
I don't think Tryouts have started for Valor. They are still taking registrations |
Yes, they did some first team tryouts a month ago and had some this past weekend I believe |
Is it possible they didn't even designate (or even hire) a 2nd, 3rd team coach until they know they will have enough kids for a 2nd, 3rd team? |
| Question: If a coach is listed as the first and second coach for the same age group, will they combine the practice and then each player will not get much attention. Or are the teams guaranteed their own individual team practice. |
You should assume it will be both depending on Fall/ Spring (one team) or Winter (more combined then not). |
I was wondering the same thing the other day when I saw a coach had the second team of two consecutive age groups (e.g., U13 and U14 boys second teams). Will that coach hold separate practices for each team or try and get away with combining them? |
Age groups usually practice at different times, so those should be separate practices. The same coach for the first and second team of the same age group is weird though. I would assume those practice at the same time and that those practices will be combined. May not be a bad thing for the second team but that doesn’t really benefit the first team. |
In one of the age groups, the head coach has a dd who will be playing on one of the teams (he is coaching first and second team in the same age group). There is no benefit in this situation to the first team if they are combined with the second team (practicing against weaker players is not useful). And, of course, all the issues with Parent Coaches. |
| Well, and one coach trying to coach 24 girls at a time vs. getting the attention of a 1 coach to 1 team ratio... |
| What has turnout been like at Valor tryouts? Many kids from outside the club? Curious about younger boys and U13 boys mostly. How many teams per age group will they have? |
| I think they just started the tryouts this week. |
This situation would make my alarm bells go off. How can one coach cover two teams' games when they play in separate leagues (NCSL and pre- ECNL?)? There will for sure be conflicts and the coach would opt for his own kid's team games in case of conflict, right? But, I would want to make sure my kid was not on the Coach's Kid Team because everyone knows what a disaster that always is. And I would want it in writing From Valor hat the two teams will be having completely separate team-only practices. There is a huge drop off at Valor from first to second teams even when their first teams are weak. Even then it would only be my choice if my kid didn't make any other team. Sounds very messy. |
My DD is in the rising u12 age group (assuming that is the one you are talking about) and the coach told us the practices will not be combined and will be help back to back. Additionally, the current coach, LK, is moving to an assistant coach role and will be staying with the age group.

So he's not a parent coach who will be coaching his own kid? |
