What is Woodbridge like? Is it safe? Does it fell like a community? What is the commute to DC like?

Depends on which part you are referring to. VRE and commuter buses help in terms of getting to DC.

Where is your commute to? That will determine whether or not the commute is fine.

95 is a parking lot to DC...if you don't commute to DC it s fine.

Woodbridge is like the PG of Va without the close in commute. It ranges from OK to about as bad as it gets in the DC area.

Some nice neighborhoods there. I would consider it if I worked somewhere remotely close

I would say the commute from Woodbridge to anywhere, on any road, is terrible. During rush hour, the roads in and around Woodbridge are awful.

We moved from Alexandria to Woodbridge 4 years ago. We live in the lake ridge area. We love it and we love living here. We both commute to dc area. My husband slugs. It takes him 40 minutes door to door rush hour. It takes me 45 minutes from Arlington to our house. Great schools here, great family feeling and lots of outdoor areas for the kids including a marina where we just love to go and run around. we picked lake ridge because of everything has to offer, safety, great schools district. I would not move though anywhere close to route 1. Crazy traffic. Good luck with your research. Great for normal families with average salaries. Not as uptight as dc area. It is more relaxed.

Thank you PP. this helps a lot.

Yes, Woodbridge is safe. Even the "bad" parts aren't truly ghetto by any means. Generally speaking, the further away from 95/rt. 1 you go, the better it gets. Lake Ridge is a large, middle class area of Woodbridge. If you are looking for upper middle class you need to look west of Lake Ridge at the Hoadly/Davis Ford corridor.

Should also mention that the Montclair area, although not as large as Lake Ridge is really nice and offers a lot to families as well. It is heavily military though, which for me is a turn off.

Woodbridge has some bad areas, but overall is much safer than PG or most of DC. That's why people tolerate the longer commutes.

There are some not great areas, but they are the areas close to Route 1 and it's pretty easy to tell which areas those are and stay away from them. Lake Ridge is nice and middle class. My main concern would be the commute, but that's not that bad if you work down there or in parts of Alexandria near 95, or in southern Fairfax County near the border.

Woodbridge has some bad areas, but overall is much cheaper than most of northern Va. That's why people tolerate the longer commutes.

Fixed it for you
