| I'm looking to get a gift for someone who is a big foodie, works in the industry and all, etc who has expressed interest in a coffee setup at home. Where do I start? What items, what brands, good beans? What's the minimum she would need to start drinking something? |
|
minimum to start is a clever dripper: http://www.amazon.com/Clever-Coffee-Dripper-CoastLine-Ounces/dp/B00EOM5RN0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1450176946&sr=8-2&keywords=clever, filters (#4), and good beans ground for clever. I get my beans from Caffe Amouri in Vienna https://www.caffeamouri.com. However, I just walk there. The beans are roasted on site, and the roasting profile is based on the beans.

Don't get plastic dripper - yuck. Ceramic is better.
You could get cold brew supplies. |
|
I also like the French Press method.
This is an expensive one but it works great: http://www.amazon.com/Bodum-Brazil-French-Coffee-34-Ounce/dp/B005ADS5FO/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1450182649&sr=8-5&keywords=french+press Coffee should be coarse ground for French Press. |

Get a chemex and whole beans
http://www.chemexcoffeemaker.com/ If she doesn't have a grinder, get her an entry-level bur grinder for around $40 |
|
Don't get him any brewer - he will have his own favorite likely. If you want to get him one, get him the aeropress:
http://www.amazon.com/Aeropress-Coffee-and-Espresso-Maker/dp/B0047BIWSK If you want to shell out some bucks, get him a good burr grinder, that way he can brew with whatever he wants! http://www.amazon.com/Bodum-Bistro-Electric-Coffee-Grinder/dp/B0043095WW/ref=sr_1_7?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1450182892&sr=1-7&keywords=burr+coffee+grinder |
Do you know this person's schedule? Does she rush out of the house to get to work in the morning, or works from home? My perfect gift would be a pour-over kit: a ceramic dripper (Chemex is a waste of $$ and the output is the same), a pack of filters, and a pack of designer-roasted coffee beans. However, such a gift would not work for me because I eat breakfast in the office and my morning coffee comes from the office Keurig but it would be perfect for a WFH or SAH person who has the time to make coffee.

| PP - do you have brand names to recommend for these items? Also, I know nothing about beans - what are some great ones that I can order online to ship? |
|
Personally I'd love a pour over that came with a mug. Like this:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/256724393/ready-to-ship-pour-over-coffee-maker-and Or this: http://www.williams-sonoma.com/m/products/5782813/ Starbucks has one that looks good too except it says Starbucks on it.
Filters you can get at the grocery store. |
| If you are in DC, Zeke's coffee is really great and they sell pour over supplies. |
