MIL complains about gifts, yet refuses to give ideas. We are running out of ideas for a very picky woman! Anyone?
I understand her not wanting anymore stuff, I get it, I just don't know what to get. She doesn't like many things (including herself, but that is another topic); no food, no wine or spirits, no house "stuff" (I do understand that one, myself!), clothes have to be a certain shade of one or two colors, ad nauseum. Ideas? |

Love it! --MIL |
Christmas floral display?
Gift card to a restaurant she likes? Also: Tell your DH that you're washing your hands of it and it's up to him. Give him and amount of $$ to spend and walk away from the whole mess. |
An orchid and pictures of the grand kids. Done. |
+1 I often get my MIL a gift card to a restaurant she likes or has been wanting to try or that is well reviewed in her city. She loves that. But my MIL is lovely and happy to receive whatever. If she were a picky PITA like yours, I'd certainly wash my hands of it and leave it to my DH. If she ends up not receiving anything, oh well. |
Not OP, but This would come back and bite me in the ass. She'd wonder why her gifts weren't as good as every one else's. Gah. |
My idea is that you pick out a gift you think is lovely and include a gift receipt and let her complain without it troubling you. |

+1 to pictures of the grandkids. Only someone truly awful would openly complain about that. |
Do you have kids? If so, a 2016 calendar with pictures of your kids. What grandmother doesn't want pictures of their grandchild(ren)? |
I'm so lucky my MIL and mom are both easy. Both have a lot of hobbies like books and gardening where you can always just give them something new and relatively inexpensive related to that.
Anyway, for people like that avoid food or drink. If she goes to movies, movie tickets. Picture of grandkids. Does she read any magazines? Maybe subscriptions to those. |
