Not OP, but This would come back and bite me in the ass. She'd wonder why her gifts weren't as good as every one else's. Gah.

Gift certificate to a restaurant she likes, or some other service or experience. Maybe a membership to a local museum or something. Nothing to clutter up her house.

Is she the kind to appreciate a donation made in her name? Maybe an animal from Heifer International? http://www.heifer.org/ (also, I'll readily admit to being terrible at in-law gifts, so...)

OP here. if it was up to DH, MIL would get nothing. he thinks she is an awful human being. I do too, I just don't care to announce it.
