Please could you delete recent posts about Philip's torture details? No one needs to read this, it's not been released & it's so awful that those close to the family do not need to read such things.

Family would likely have already been told. Saying this from experience. Deleting comments is fine, and although understandable from your POV-- screencaps save them.

Yes, and they should be allowed to deal with this information privately.

How about someone ask this reporter why he posted this on twitter Don't let him off the hook https://twitter.com/BruceLeshan

the facts of the case will all come out eventually, brutal or not. not sure why people are flaming a reporter for doing his job?

The reporter is doing his job when he reports new information (news) with sources to back up what he reports. The tweet in question uses language that deepens the horror of what that poor boy suffered. Without a link to back up this specific new language, Leshan seems to be exploiting the child's suffering for the sake of expanding his audience. That would be sick! Hence the flaming, which I heartily endorse.

No, he has a public defender

I think the PD has also issued a statement that basically said don't listen to Ficker and he has no association with the case whatsoever.

Why would a lawyer risk it all?? He is not even on this case..he looks bad! And what is the story behind his heckling the NBA??? News networks are to blame for airing this guy in the first place! Love how Nancy Grace reamed him a new one on her show!

careless language and careless reporting. I suspect even the torture language was careless, but we shall see. Broken bones can happen when one is beaten/stabbed to death, which is what happened with the other 3 and likely what happened to the boy.

Something just occurred to me in terms of Wint's motivation.
He worked at AIW 2003-2005 and then was reportedly let go.
Philip was 10, so he was probably born in 2005. (depending on his actual birth date)

Could Wint in his twisted mind somehow have blamed the birth of this child on his being let go? Has he been nursing his anger and resentment all these years? Hence acting out his intense hatred?

I thought of this too but didn't post anything about it because it seemed like such a stretch/so outlandish. Then again, a lot of Wint's actions seem that way...who knows.

It's unkind to poke fun at someone who couldn't fathom the ugliness of this crime and was trying desperately to find some sort of iota of comfort about an innocent child's dying moments. On the other hand, maybe being sarcastic is the PP's style of coping mechanism. This crime is bringing out the best and worst in all of us.

hey that is me. thanks for the defense. I didn't quite understand why posters took such umbrage to my comment (and still do apparently). It's like they though I was defending Wint when I was just trying to imagine what that night looked like. I still hope I am right. I hope that they all thought it would be over soon - a weary, scary trial but not one that involved physical pain and knowledge of approaching death till the very very end. I do think the latest twitter detail is just unfounded sensationalism.

Perhaps it was SS's kindness, familiarity with JW at the racetrack and willingness to be of service that caused SS to hire JW. Things look murky in relationship to JW and the case. And yes you would think there would be criteria and background checks for selecting a personal assistant and rules for the personal assistant to follow. Who would think you would have to spell out not to share anything about his employer's personal property or routines.

Particularly, all employees must be screened carefully, security systems must be in place and used as if your life depends on it (which it does). Police should be supported strongly because they are truly our main defense against being killed by the monsters in our midst. Our society is actually quite fragile. Everything from immigration policy (Wint should not have even been in this country) to better security sytems/locks ect. could have prevented these horrible murders.

+1

There is a delicate balance between abusing the system when calling the police (old people who complain about anything); to the people who second guessed themselves and did not call the police (no names, but there are many what ifs, obviously). People need to be more vigilant about when to call, when it is appropriate.

ITA about the immigration policy. It is problematic, no matter what one's political views. First generation here.

Other than those two issues at hand, I don't know what else this family could have done. It looks like forced entry? I suppose you could have a silent alarm/panic button on your alarm that would summon the police.

So many of us identify with this family. Awful. They are surrounded by truly amazing (classy) people to zip their lips, and not be fame whores.

As horrible as this is please know there are many good people in the world and there are many examples of that. The reason there is so much attention on this case is that it is an unusual horrible crime and people want to see justice for the family and put the persons away to prevent further crimes.

in the mind of any logical, rational person but maybe not so crazy since we're considering Wint

Are you saying Wint is here in the US illegally?

It does sound quite odd, yet this person is expanding the possible motives for someone that is not a rational thinker. Remember this is the guy found behind a dumpster with a 2 foot machete, a BB gun and a can a beer. Not a rational thinker to me to do that. Ya just never know…. so glad it was posted. I lean towards the little PS being the apple of his Dad's eye and that thug knew that as a way to get what he wanted.

I'm as outraged as anyone by this crime, but the last 4 or so pages of this thread are a lurid ride through crazytown.
