Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
DS is 6 mos old and he has dry, red cheeks. He seemed to have a reaction to baby oatmeal, so I can't use aveeno or eucerin calming cream (both have oatmeal). The johnson's lotion is smelly and greasy and not working well. What else should I try?
I would talk to your pediatrician.
Ped's recommended aveeno and eucerin -- until baby had reaction to his first round of baby oatmeal. Picked up johnson's at giant, and it's really oily and perfumy. Has anyone tried a non-baby lotion on their infant? Something for sensitive skin? Does Whole Foods or BBB carry another type of lotion I should try? Do they make special lotions just for the face? The rest of my son's body is fine -- no dry skin. It's just his face.
My ped recommended using Aquaphor when our son was a baby and had the same dry skin.
Mustela has a severly dry skin formula for babies
aquaphor. might be eczema.
i like the mustela one, too.
my ped also recommended Aquaphor baby and got it from CVS. Works well with my 5 mo's dry skin
I just started using Premium Triplecream for eczema. Less greasy than Aquaphor.
Aquaphor, hands down. It was ped recommended and I know one mom said ask your ped, but I'm a firm believer in asking a community of peers and trying out some things before wasting a co-pay. Especially when it comes to a non-medicinal question such as mositurizer. Back to my recommendation-- I wouldn't exactly describe aquaphor as greasy. It definitely feels like a petroleum-ish product between your fingers but when you put it on baby he/she doesn't feel greasy afterwards. I've found nothing better at curing and protecting extremely dry skin for baby. In fact me and DH use it now too.
You can ask your pediatrician on the phone for free. duh And this "community of peers" isn't a reliable source of medical info (or much else) |
For dry skin, my ped recommended cetaphil. For eczema, ask your own ped.
OP here: Does cetaphil make a lotion? I'm familiar w/ their soap, but not lotion. And I'm not dealing w/ excema -- just run of the mill dry cheeks from wiping him after meals coupled w/ the cold air outside and dry heat in our home. I'm just looking for a mild lotion for sensitive baby cheeks. Thanks for the helpful responses. I'll try aquaphor. I'm steering clear of mustela -- their co website has a FAQ regarding ingredients that have been linked to cancer.

Why do you feel the need to reply in such a snarky way? You clearly have a disdain for this board, so why are you here? |
Aquafor isn't a moisturing lotion, it is a skin protectant. My ped said you need a lotion under it. All Aquafor does is lube up the skin, it does not put moisture into it. Google it or ask your ped if you do not believe this.
