Can I wear these boots to a "gala?"

Anonymous
Going to a gala party for a Jewish organization. Dress is black and white cocktail attire. Party is in the evening, in December. Does this outfit seem ok?

Sleeveless black dress, fitted, above knee length. It's from the gap, mostly cotton, and fits me well. Waist length black cardigan with 3/4 sleeves. Black tights and these boots in black:

If link doesn't work, it's the Gather Round boot from aerosoles.

Thanks for any feedback! I don't have many occasions to dress up, and am generally not very fancy.

No. You typically don't wear boots to a gala unless it is during a massive snow storm. Bring a change of shoes but wear the cute shoes during the gala.

Your outfit doesn't sound "gala" or cocktail attire.

I think you'd have to do heels. Those boots & a cardigan are way too casual.

I think you will feel very underdressed when you get there. Something more sparkly over the black dress (if you don't already have a more formal dress) and shoes with heels.

Those are boots to walk the dogs in, I'm afraid.

Your outfit sounds way too casual. These outfits are for a cocktail party (minus the gowns which are formal).

You WILL be underdressed. You need a dressy LBD because up WILL be competing (willingly or not) with the J girls who are trying to land a doctor. Step it up!

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking that I may need to step it up a bit

Sparkle, girl! Sparkle! This is your chance!

Yeah, your whole outfit is more business casual than "gala."

No absolutely not okay. You also need to wear a nicer outfit.

A cocktail dress or at least nice slacks with a dressy shirt. Heels on your feet only. High or low doesn't matter.

OP here again. Thanks gals

Ugh, now to figure out what will work for me. I don't need to impress anyone, but do need to look good enough to not embarrass my in-laws, who are being honored at the event.

I will go with heels, shear black hose, and some kind of (little) black dress.

Oops, that's "sheer" black hose, not "shear."

Yeah, that sounds like an outfit I would wear to my ho-hum office job on a rainy day. Except I would never wear all black unless to a funeral. Sorry, OP - you do need to do something more formal.

Something like this?

now you are talking. What's your size, shape and style? Maybe we can help find you something!

I would also suggest getting your hair done on the day to make you feel sexy and dressed up. Sometimes that's all it takes to feel glam.
