Why aren't blacks protesting against the name of Wilson High like @ Princeton?

Anonymous
Blacks make up a higher % of students by a longshot @ Wilson than @ Princeton. So why are there no protests to rename wilson high like woodywoo?

1) No one is paying to go to Wilson.
2) American history taught in public school typically glazes over or omits Wilson's racism, so students don't learn of it until they're in college.

AA at Wilson High have bigger problems than AA at Princeton most likely.

This. Seriously, OP, are you one of those posters who sees all black people as representing the "black nation" and the "black point of view" so they must be held accountable for whatever any black person does?

I thought that Wilson was a profressive. A priggish one to be sure, and basically a bad president.

He was pretty racist. Even my fairly conservative, predominantly white HS taught this in the 80s. (We had a sizable Asian and Latino minority that knew the real deal about WW.)

Maybe an AA DCUMer can ask about this at the next secret Black People meeting, where it is decided how all black people think and feel about things.

Yes, but it would seem odd for progressives to attack a progressive.

Once they get rid of everything that carries Wilson's name, are Washington and Jefferson next? Do we change the name of the city to "Marion Barry-ville"?

There's really no logical reason for not moving onto Jefferson and Washington. GWU and UVA would seem vulnerable, among others, to potential issues.

Oh FFS, this has been discussed on the Princeton thread. No one has been insisting that everything that carries his name should have it changed. But if a silly statement like this makes you feel clever...well, you're not.

As has been discussed elsewhere on DCUM, Washington was ahead of his time, Jefferson was too weak to rise above his times, and Wilson actually turned the clock back and made things worse by destroying careers and livelihoods. Making sweeping and silly statements like the one above doesn't take the place of doing actual research on these historical figures and crafting an argument.
