AAP acceptance with "ok" scores and super low GBRS?

Anonymous
Anyone have a child get into AAP with "ok" scores and super low GBRS? I'm thinking 129 scores and 8 or 9 GBRS. My co-worker said her child did and I am floored. This was in 2013.

I'd be surprised about this unless something else is going on. Maybe your co-worker had a WISC done? Or there were special circumstances?

That doesn't seem possible. Your co-worker is lying.

Is you coworkers kid in a local level IV class with principal placement?

If yes, if your coworker either a pain the the ass mom or one of those very important to the school volunteer moms?

If it is a local level IV with principal placement and your friend is either one of "those" moms, I couod see it happening.

Give me a break. It is utter ridiculousness to perpetuate the (wrong) belief that if you're loud enough, you can get your kid in.

Hard to see how a co-worker and you are having a discussion about low-ish scores and mediocre GBRS. Are you asking about your own kid in a round about way?

No, especially since my own kid has no 2nd grade GBRS scores and my oldest has been in AAP for 3 months now. I hope my middle child's is not low but I have no idea. Not sure how it's hard to see what we were talking about but ok . . .

You absolutely can at our LLIV (not get center eligibility, but pupil place)

Pleading the 5th, but inconsistent principal placement is a real problem in LLIVs.

... how consistent is the GBRS, really? As consistent as the teachers teaching?

Once you're not in the pool, it's all a popularity contest.

Child could have strong work samples, strong letters of recommendations, and/or a high WISC.

A high WISC will get you in. Letters of recommendation from someone other than the teacher (who did the GBRS)? Don't see it.

I saw a case where the students scores were lower than 120, and the GBRS was on the low side. The parent referred and used all the right buzz words (had inside knowledge), and the child was admitted. The child returned to his base school midway through the year. Hmmm...
