Private & Independent Schools
I need to apply a child for 4th grade in the next few months. Is anyone aware of schools that might have openings. Someone mentioned Capitol Hill Day School, but are there others?
Where are you located?
British School of Washington has a rolling enrollment. Good chance of an opening there. Nice school, too, I heard.
It's worth just calling around. Now is a good time to indicate interest and ask if you can submit a late application, since people may drop out before the contract binding date (June 1 at most places). And even after that, keep checking: sometimes someone has to move on short notice and spaces open up in August!
Lowell, Norwood seem to be taking kids.
Grace Episcopal Day School
Try Sheridan School.

If you are in northern Virginia, I would try Westminster. My DC entered at 4th grade and it was the best decision we have ever made.
It is probably not for everyone as it is very traditional, structured and follows a classical curriculum, but we feel that she received a wonderful education at the school. I am a new poster here at DCUM and I have mentioned the school in another thread or two. I am very surprised there isn't more data here on the school. While we were there, parents used to jokingly say that Westminster is the best kept secret in northern Virginia. I guess we were right. : ) |
try WES if you are in NW DC or Maryland
If northern Virginia is an option, Edlin has openings now. We just toured there last week with the thought of possibly starting DC there this spring but have decided not to.

If you are ok with Catholic school try Blessed Sacrament in DC. They specifically mention openings in 4th grade.

Mclean has openings!!!!!!
There's a chance that Burgundy Farm will have an opening. Occasionally they do because students unexpectedly move. It's worth calling.
St. Andrews in Potomac is starting a new fourth grade this year. They may have spaces.
There are openings at Sheridan? What about the wait list? |
