Governors all across the country are refusing to take Syrian refugees

It's probably related to a CYA thing now. Do you want to be the asshole who lets in the terrorist who stages the next big attack in the US? Not that I think that will necessarily happen but it's definitely within the realm of possibility.

How very Christian of them.

Isn't it legit for a governor to want to know how refugees are being vetted prior to resettlement? Seems legit to me.

How does one stop a Syrian refugee who moves to one of these states from a state that accepts them initially?

I think the Obama administration is out of touch with reality when they say the refugees will be vetted thoroughly. How does one do it people who have no documentation and may even lie about their identity?

Since the terrorists have only been identified as French and Belgium citizens why is not be against their immigration. Finding a forged Syrian passport and tying it to all Syrian refugees shows a lack of understanding the global reach of ISIS.

Religion isn't allowed in governance.

You'll be opening your home to refugees, I am sure.

I suspect the people who will carry out the next attack are already here and have been for quite some time. Everytime I get in a cab in DC and notice that the driver has at least three cell phones, I wonder what the hell he's talking about and who he's talking to. They know the roads, traffic patterns, typical police patrols, security, etc. And they are everywhere--driving cabs in all major cities. They could be an army among us.

Governors can't really tell the federal government who to admit under a visa program or where those people can go after they get here. On the other hand, governors also don't have to use state programs or state money to help resettle refugees.

The governor saying that refugees aren't welcome in Michigan or Illinois or wherever is about as effective as a private citizen saying that he doesn't want them in my city. Neither the governor nor a private citiaen have the authority to tell the federal government who to give visas to or who to spend federal money for refugees on.

We've done a pretty good job resettling foreign refugees from Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Iraqis, and the former Yugoslav republics over the past few decades.

The Tsarnaev brothers were the exception to this. Still, only two bad eggs out of the millions that have claimed asylum. This really proves that (1.) the American immigrant experience works better here than pretty much anywhere else in the world and (2.) our security services have done a very good job at thwarting attacks and monitoring new immigrant populations.

We can easily handle Syrian immigrants. Only the most savvy and most determined can make it here; those are the immigrants we want!

I have many Muslim friends. They are awesome people. I understand that many of the refugees are good people trying to escape the same terrorists we are. However, I still think accepting thousands of random refugees is a bad idea. Help them resettle somewhere in the Middle East.

I'm sure Northern VA will take them all. Sigh.

I will agree with this (the rest of your post is garbage)

Those most likely to commit attacks will be the alienated, first generation who grew up here and don't feel like they "fit in" to American society.
TBH, immigrant parents need to do a better of job of letting their first generation children assimilate. Those who try raise their kids as if they are back in the "old country" just tend to produce maladjusted misfits. They then rebel - one of which is the child turning to a violent strain of Islam.

Exactly. What role do state governments play in refugee resettlement? I thought, the fed accepted refugees and then NGOs and faith-based groups took over. I guess Governors could pursue the Maine strategy and try to deny refugees benefits, would would make the state a less attractive place to settle, but there isn't any state-level mechanism for accepting or denying refugees.

As an aside-I know one Syrian refugee family, and they are lovely people. I'm more afraid of some of my own relatives than I am of them.
