Something on this website hanging multiple browsers

Anonymous
Recently, I'd been noticing at work that my browser (Firefox) would hang when DCUM was open. It's running Windows (not sure which version - it's one that would be needed to run on a massive network after we finally got off of XP). I notice that it seems to be trying to load some kind of ad software. Now, I'm getting the same thing on my iPad using Safari. Pages just hang and I either have to force quit Safari or it just crashes. The iPad thing started late yesterday. I've rebooted the iPad several times to make sure it's not me, and it seems only to happen on DCUM and not other websites.

I know you need ad revenue and I don't begrudge that, but whatever's going on is now experiencing platform creep.

This was happening to me earlier today as well (Safari on iPad), with pages hanging or not fully loading. Seems to have resolved itself now.

I have experienced a couple of ad-related problems myself and was actually able to track one down last night and I hope that it has been fixed. I am also experiencing an issue of my iPad locking up, but that one is harder to fix. I am as frustrated by these issues as you are and probably more so.

If you can look for patterns on which pages the problems occur and, as you have, what browsers you are using, that is helpful in tracking down the issues. I have one new ad that only runs on the main forum listing page. If you are only having a problem on the main listing page, I would suspect that ad (which I can remove if it is the source of problems). On other pages, it is harder to track things down.

The ad networks themselves work very hard to stop this sort of thing, but there are people who go to great lengths to sneak malicious or problematic code past them. I keep on top of the networks to the extent that I can to impress upon them to the need for vigilance and I am also looking for my own solutions. I really don't want the ads to be sources of problems.

Thanks Jeff. I feel somewhat better when it's happening to lots of people (and in this case you ) since it means it's not just me, and it means that you will be trying to hunt it down.

In my case on the iPad, the hanging was happening mostly inside threads, especially as trying to load the next page.

Happening all the time over the past two weeks on my phone: Samsung Galaxy

Started a day or two ago for me. iPhone 5 on AT&T.

It started right after one of my posts got deleted so I thought I was being punished.

And it happens mostly on "recent topic" page.

I have turned off a bunch of ads that might have been contributing to this problem. If anyone sees this issue again, please report.

It's happening again, on multiple different pages/forums. Safari on iPad here.

I turned off a bunch of ads. It could take a half hour or e for the changes to take effect. But let's see if that helps.

My iPad constantly is "reloading" but I think it has to do with the two upgrades Apple pushed rather than DCUM. I'm not sure if this is the same things others are experiencing.
