Recommend a dishwasher

Need a new one. Don't even know where to start looking. We'll probably remodel the kitchen in a few years, so midrange is good. We may or may not use it in the new kitchen.

Bosh 500 or 800. Metal tub. 3 tiers. Super quiet.

Too many factors to consider. You should get a Consumer Reports account so that you can narrow your choices down (by size and by feature for example). Then read the reviews for that specific appliance online.

Do NOT get a Samsung dishwasher. We bought a high-end Samsung dishwasher about less than 2 years ago and it has been in repair THREE times. Samsung has the lousiest customer support and their warranty SUCKS. It has cost of quite a bit already to get it going again only for it to break down a few months later. My neighbor has the same exact dishwasher and is experiencing the same issues. Stick with a different brand. I heard Bosch and GE are good brands.

Miele. Top rack for silverware took a bit of getting used to but now I wouldn't have it any other way. Super clean, dry and silent.

OP said mid-range, not overpriced and overrated.

I bought a Maytag ( http://www.lowes.com/pd_595159-46-MDB8969SDM_1z10e4l__?productId=50210123&pl=1&Ntt=maytag+dishwasher ) last year when I had the kitchen redone and it works like a dream. Don't underestimate the built-in food disposer. Most dishwashers expect you to clean out a disgusting filter periodically (the Mieles are known for that). This Maytag does not have a filter that needs cleaning. If I had one complaint, it's that the wash cycle takes 2.5-3 hours. Old dishwashers only took an hour but all the new Energy-star ones now have super-long cycles. Still beats washing them in the sink.

If you will be replacing it in a few years anyway, how about Whirlpool? We have had great success with Whirlpool appliances. We replaced our WP dishwasher with a three tier Bosch, and it is just not as easy to load as the WP. I'm not convinced either that the SS tub offers any true benefit. It is very quiet though.

Our KitchenAid is a total lemon, FWIW.

My aunt has a Miele dishwasher. Well actually 2, and I'm pretty sure each cost her $3K. It's an expensive piece of shit. It only cleans dishes if you arrange them in a circle around the perimeter of the bottom tray. It wont' clean at all if you stack them side by side.

I will concede it's super quiet, but so what?

I have a bosch. Most dishwashers now take 2.5 hours minimum to clean, at least if you get an Energy Star, for a full load. I think it has something to do with how it recycles water to save it, but I'm not sure.

We have a Bosch too, a couple years old, and it takes perhaps an hour and a half. Not three!
