This is six years old. I read this when it was first published. Six years later, I have to admit that Kate was playing a long game. A loooooooooong game. Just like she did during their courtship. When they were dating, she kept her head down and quiet and continued toward the goal she had in mind, no matter how remote it seemed. Similarly, in her early royal years she clearly decided to focus on having several children and spending early years with them, and only then gradually ramping up her engagements. And look at her now - respected royal wife, seen as highly suitable future Queen, with several adorable kids, supportive of her husband but clearly two steps behind him, and her own modest but popular portfolio. You have to admit she had this goal for a while and was not swayed by the criticism she received because she had a clear vision for the future several years ahead.

My money is on them trying to use the fact that Harry left as justification for cutting back the number of engagements. Which may or may not blow up in their faces in terms of funding they receive. Also I feel like if the courtiers weren’t so classist they could find a way to use Carole as an asset behind the scenes.

They’re already trying to reduce the engagement numbers. The issue is W+K are already doing less than half of the engagements of all other royals in a normal year. So what are they going to reduce it further to? Zero?

And I don’t see what Carole has anything to do with this. She’s a non-factor.

I don't understand how a couple constantly shirking public duties look so tired 24/7. They don't even live together half the time. The British reporters messed up two weeks ago and announced William was coming in from Sandringham for Phillip's memorial...the day Kate was papped in London on the school run.

Sophie is already working as much as Prince Charles. She flat-out said she can't take anymore on and I believe her. Aside from Anne, she was doing to most global tours for the royals on top of the 3rd highest number of domestic engagements.

Maybe we'll end up seeing a lot of Prince Edward's children then, too. I saw that Prince Charles does more than 500 engagements a year. Figuring that he doesn't work every day and occasionally takes a vacation, he has to be doing 3-4 engagements a day. That's a lot.

Edwards' children are too young to take on roles on their own. Louise isn't even 18 until November and even then - the Windsor parents accompany their kids on engagements and tours for the first few years (not just times). Charles did joint engagements with William and & Harry in their 20s. So that's not lifting the load - its increasing it.
