Ridiculous does not equal pretentious.
Generic, Christian names do not equal pretentious.

Pretentious is "expressive of affected, unwarranted, or exaggerated importance, worth, or stature."

You're welcome.

Like the name Penny ?

Is Penny pretentious? Right now Penelope nn Penny is at the top of our list (after an old family friend of mine who was like a grandmother to me when I was a girl). It feels like a good mix since Penelope is more formal and could be used professionally later in life but Penny feels bright and unassuming to us, the opposite of pretentious.

Just surprised to see it mentioned in this thread and wondering why!

Kardashians

They have a Penelope, but I don't think they call her Penny.

Penelope has become popular enough that I think it's weird to associate with the Kardashians at this point, though. It's like if they'd named a kid Chloe or Violet (similarly ranked names). Those aren't pretentious either.

All her friends there have horribly pretentious names and nicknames. It probably goes along with the prentioud southern naming pattern, but really...barf.

What are the names?

I thought the trend was a pretentious first name with a cutsey middle name and call them by the cutsey name. For example: Ainsley Coco or Preston Hank.

Am I wrong?

Agreed, I know a Preston who goes by “Bubba”

Skya. Pretentious name, from a pretentious mother. No surprise the kid has turned into an entitled teenaged brat.

What is pretentious about that? I know a number of people with that name born in the 1930s-1960s.

It’s an old golf dude name.

That's ironic; to me it's a bit low brow.
