You ain’t lying. Imagine what the children felt. It’s so very sad. And he got his brother’s widow hooked on crack. I mean addiction sucks but this guy has basically destroyed every relationship around him with his most important family members. I can’t imagine what his wife and kids and his brother’s kids went through. Losing your dad, and then your mom starts sleeping with your uncle and gets addicted to crack.

I’m no HB fan but his sister in law had agency in this.

Drug addiction is so, so awful. Losing a parent is so awful, losing a brother (after losing a parent) is so awful. Lots of tragedy all around.

That’s why people like Hunter are very hard to keep in the family. Hunter did have tragedies. It’s very sad. But he seems to only think about his tragedies. He doesn’t think about what his own kids are going through with a dad who has been addicted to crack for years. His kids have to see pictures of their dad nude, with many different prostitutes, doing crack online. Can you imagine how upsetting that is for them?

He doesn’t think about his nephews- they experienced tragedy losing their dad young. Instead of kicking drugs during the many times he’s been blessed to have a great rehab facility, he’s inflicted tragedy on his and his brother’s children at a time they needed him.

Addicts always always always put themselves first.

The key word there is "addicts"

The right has lost their minds with this case and show just how craven and political they are. It is really horrifying.

Addicts are banned from buying guns and the “right” did not being these charges.

For example: drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. That can easily be in there for months since last usage. People on drugs lose their paraphernalia all the time. It's not indicative of immediate usage if it's been sitting at the bottom of the glove box for months.

ATM withdrawals: he bought a gun with cash. He may have intended to buy multiple guns, which can run $500-1000 each when purchased legally. Hunter Biden was known to pull out lots of cash with regularity and spend frivolously. On its own it is not indicative that he was actively using drugs.

It will be a hung jury, folks. The real question is what does Weiss do after that. Re-try him for a victimless crime? Seems like a bit much.

Illegally buying a weapon is not a victimless crime.

No one said that it was.

That doesn't mean a jury cannot decide the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

Literally the PP said that.

This crime is no different than what Marilyn Mosby or Trump were prosecuted for, false declarations.

No one disputes that he claimed to not abuse drugs on the form. No one disputes that his book proves that this was a false declaration. The fact that his book is about his struggles with addiction irrelevant.

You are delusional. Trump didn’t just lie on a form. He committed election fraud and tax fraud.

What is tax fraud? He misrepresented his business costs on tax forms.

He disguised a reimbursement to his coconspirator for hush money that had been paid to benefit his campaign as a tax deductible expense for legal services. That’s business fraud to commit tax fraud and campaign finance fraud.

Exactly. And Hunter Biden misrepresented his drug use on a legal form in order to purchase a gun that he would not otherwise have been legally allowed to purchase.

Not really. The form asks if you are “addict” or “have an addiction”.

Did Hunter think of himself as an addict at that time or just somebody who used drugs? The prosecution is going to have to prove the former. Very gray area.

of course if the jury decides to acquit or is hung, MAGA heads will explode.

This is so stupid. If it is not an objective standard then there is no point to the declaration. He was in fact a drug addict. End of story.

It is not so different than declaring that you will reside in a home in order to receive a conforming mortgage. It doesn’t matter what your belief or intent is, what matters is what you do.

Millions of other gun owners in America are also addicts who lied on their 4473 and probably shouldn't be allowed to own guns. Yet none of them are getting investigated and prosecuted for it. It's purely political. End of story.

How many of them published a memoir detailing their addiction during the same period? I mean come on.

It's not the memoir. It's his last name. This is purely political. It's disgusting.

Are we supposed to look the other way while he publishes a book about his addition and has huge bank withdrawals the same day he bought a gun, because we are worried his dad will be upset?

You're supposed to be normal. Not charge him for something that no one is ever charged with.

Is this hard?

It’s not hard to see that often the evidence that a person was addicted at the time of a gun application isn’t a hugely publicized memoir.

Psuedo-celeb memoirs like this almost always have some admission of a crime. It's so prevalent that it's cliche. Anthony Keedis' admitted to statutory rape and Chandler Bing's was nothing but sketchy behavior. That's how they get the movie deals and book sales. Heck, none of these memoirs are even written by the person claiming them as their own.

I don't care about HB but I do find the issue of ghost written memoirs being used as a statement against interest to be an interesting conundrum.

+1

It's bizarre. Memoirs are not 100% factual. And often enough aren't written by the person, especially celeb memoirs.

It’s bizarre for a jury to listen to Biden’s own words on audio? Only if you are a partisan who thingks exceptions should be made for he son of a president.

Do you know what a memoir is? It's the story of someone's life, their story. Not a biography. A story.

I imagine if it were Don jr, dems would be talking about how dangerous he was, having a gun and being coked to the gills. They would say how he could have shot someone with the gun while high, and been aghast he left his gun where his children and nephews could find it. They would be calling him a pervert and trailer trash because he was sleeping with his sister in law. They probably would want the Trump sil prosecuted for illegally disposing of a gun in a grocery dumpster right by a school. They would say Trump’s connections helped Don jr illegally obtain a gun and that would need investigating. I really can’t see how they would want mercy for Don jr and complain about his prosecution.

I'm confused. Are you saying that Don Jr. should be prosecuted for having guns while coked up or not?

Either way it's an interesting circular argument that you have presented. HB should be prosecuted for the same things that Don Jr does because Don Jr would be prosecuted while HB wouldn't even though HB is and Don Jr isn't.

Except in the real world HB is being prosecuted, whereas Don Jr isn't even being investigated for his coked-up videos while possessing firearms (which he posts evidence of possessing all the time on his social media).

Do you think if this was Don Jr and with the same set of circumstances, you would feel the same?

Of course but we all know Don would never have gotten that sweetheart plea deal that started this whole drama.

The plea deal was recscinded because Weiss feared retribution from the MAGAs, so here we are.
