Religion
The view of atheism is that God doesn’t exist. That’s exactly like Christianity in saying something that is in opposition to other people’s beliefs. The thing to do is realize people think differently and be ok with it. We all have different beliefs. It’s the way the world works. That doesn’t invalidate our personal beliefs. There is absolutely no reason to be constantly upset and worried because human beings all have different beliefs. If you are secure in your own beliefs- then that is that. The problem is within you if you can’t accept that people have different beliefs. Religion exists. Atheism exists. We choose what we think makes sense for us and then live our lives. We can’t make and don’t want to make everyone think like us. Atheism says when we die we cease existing. We become nothing. Do you not think that thought is upsetting and depressing and scary for people who are not atheist? Somehow that is completely dismissed in this argument. Atheism is telling people something they are uncomfortable with, just like when Christianity tells people they “will go to hell.” Each belief tells people that have different beliefs something they don’t like/believe in. But you don’t consider that. |
I hate to break it to you, but no one really cares what you believe or not. Some people just like to call out blatant falsehoods and ignorance. Frankly, no one would comment on Christianity at all if certain religious groups weren't trying to force their "Christian" beliefs on everyone else. |
Yes. Some people are drawn to religion because they fear the unknown/uncertainty. This has absolutely been discussed before. |
Beautiful!. I have just been reading a book by Rollo May called "The Cry for Myth." He speaks of secular myths and religious myths - but defines "myth" as "a way of making sense of a senseless world." I just don't see why so many people on here get so upset about this. |
You missed the point. Your beliefs are telling people something that they don’t believe in and are threatening, scary, and uncomfortable to them. Just like you say Christianity makes you feel. |
^^^ Found the atheist crusader. Don't blame me. The moderator called you a boor first (https://www.dcurbanmom.com/weblog/2023/07/03/update070323). There's also an atheist who impersonated another atheist on this thread and the moderator had to delete those two posts. You atheists are a lovely bunch! |
Atheist people are drawn to nothingness after death because they fear the unknown/uncertainty of what happens after death. If they keep repeating to themselves that after death they will cease to exist- that’s how they deal with it. |
There is no evidence that the Christian/Muslim/Jewish gods exists, right? That's why people who believe he exists have faith, right? Similarly, there is no evidence that the Roman/Greek/Norse gods exist. People who believed they exist also had faith. A "myth" is just a traditional story - sometimes about the god(s). You're reading too much into it. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/myth myth noun ˈmith 1a : a usually traditional story of ostensibly historical events that serves to unfold part of the world view of a people or explain a practice, belief, or natural phenomenon |
Dude, I didn't even post on this thread until recently. There really are multiple posters here.

No scientific evidence can prove or disprove God. Yes, religion is based on faith. Atheism is based on the faith there is no God. We all have different ways of living our lives. That should be enough to end this thread. |
No, I don't think about death at all. I'm too busy living this life. And it's pretty clear what happens to people when they die. They become worm food. |
That’s your opinion, which you are welcome to express and live your life by. You must know that the billions of other human beings on earth are entitled to their own opinion, too? Or do you think your opinion is what everyone else must accept as their opinion? |
Atheists say you become worm food after death. So as a Christian- are you telling me I have no choice? I am worm food, and that is it for every human on earth? |
I DGAF what you believe. I do GAF about "Christians" pushing their beliefs on everyone else. |
So many incorrect and false things in so few sentences. Atheists don’t have “faith” there is no god. That is ludicrous. Atheists simply do not believe because there is insufficient evidence. Do you have “faith” that the things you don’t believe in don’t exist? Of course you don’t. You know those things are unfalsifiable and you just logically don’t believe in them. When we speak of evidence, we are not speaking solely of scientific evidence. There are many kinds of evidence, and there is insufficient of any of it for us to believe. And you don’t get to decide when the thread ends. |
